Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Evaluation: Question 3

How we obtained our feedback:

To collect our audience feedback we created a questionnaire for our audience to fill out whilst they watch our trailer. Although we had not finished our trailer and did know that we had to add /change a few things, getting the feedback did help inform us of the things the audience did and didn’t like and what we had to change/add. We also got feedback on Facebook about our posters and magazines. On the next few slides will be examples of some of the questions we asked, which were about the music, editing, fonts, opening sequence and so on, here are some of them and how we are going to resolve the problems…

Does the music fit with the genre?o Music does suit genre.

o The music is a bit weak. Don’t feel any emotion from it.

o Yes! But maybe some of the sound effects are a little cheese –comical.

o It was nice music but at points the sound effects were rather funny.

After reading these responses we decided to take out the sounds that weren’t right, for example the ‘Time Passing’ sound effect that can be found in iMovie sound effects, whilst the mug shot photographs are played on screen. This had a comical effect on the audience as the responses point out, and so we decided to remove this sound, as it did not have the desired effect for the genre of our movie.

What would you improve?

o Realism of TV shows, more involvement of characters.

o The beginning, girl moves around a lot and cant hear her.

o More footage, cleaner narrative, better acting in the first part with TV presenter – talk louder.

o Sound is quiet for talking at the beginning.

We thought this was a big part of our feedback as it includes all the things that the audience think we need to improve on. Some of these points we agree with so are going to do something about it. For example the TV presenter is very quiet in our trailer whilst she is trying to introduce the show and tell the audience what the film is about, so we decided to go out and film this part of the film again and make sure it is louder and clearer in the trailer, so it stands out.

Do you think the editing works?

o It could have been a little faster as it built up to the zoom in of the girl. But I really liked the cuts of the church.

o Yes, I really like the transitions and fonts.

o Yes the short picture shots set the scene well.

o Yes but some of the cuts are very quick.

This question got a lot of positive feedback, which is good. But there is some critical points that aren’t a big problem within the trailer so we will not be doing anything about it. We are really pleased with the editing in our film and glad we got a good response from the audience so that we did not have to change a lot of things.

Feedback from Facebook…

These are both really positive responses from the people that commented on Facebook. Because the feedback was so positive we did not change anything on our magazine. If there were any suggestions or things that they did not feel were good on the magazine, we would have changed the things that were wrong. But thankfully there was nothing wrong and the magazine cover stayed the same as it needed nothing added or removed.

Feedback from Facebook

o The images work really well in a line, they are all similar but it would have been better if all the people were the same size in the image.

o I like how the background is black so that all the images blend into one, maybe you could try it with different colours within the colour scheme to see what these would look like. Also maybe it would look good if you tried it on the side of the bus on CBS Outdoors.

In response to this comment we took a few more versions of the photographs in different locations and at different times, to see when and where we got the best photographs to use.

Overall…

After reading our audience feedback and taking it into account, we did make a few changes to our film trailer and the poster. Some things we changed are:

o Re-filming our introduction in our trailer as it was too quiet.

o Photographing the contestants in different locations and at different times.

o Choosing the photographs that were most similar.

o Removing the sound effects that were too comical and did not go.

Fortunately we did not have to change anything for the magazine as it was all positive feedback.
