WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

BAUER MEDIA AND IPC

I have researched the main UK Publishing Houses, Bauer Media and IPC media. These publishing houses distribute the biggest selling

magazines in the UK from NME to Marie Claire. I researched the type of magazines and companies they represent and distribute and

what they look for in magazines etc…

… I concluded that BAUER MEDIA would be the most suitable media institution to distribute my media product for

a number of reasons.

Firstly, Bauer Media distribute Q and Kerrang magazine, both of which I researched in detail

when trying to gain inspiration for my final product.

I feel Bauer Media would be suitable for distributing my magazine is because the design and overall style of my magazine is very similar to that of Q, in regards to it’s layout, colour scheme and general content, this was

largely due to the type of music I wanted to feature and my target audience.

WHY NOT IPC?The primary reason I did not choose IPC Media to distribute and publish my product is because a large number of magazines they distribute are aimed solely at women, including In Style and Look and the audience of

my magazine is unisex, therefore it would not make sense to choose them. Also IPC had a much bigger focus on fashion and lifestyle magazines instead of music therefore it is likely they have less

experience compared to Bauer.

OTHER OPTIONS?Due to the growth of technological convergence within all areas of the

media another method of distributing my magazine could be online or on electronic devices such as the Ipad. This is an increasing trend with other

mainstream magazines, especially NME and Q. This would be a highly effective way of distributing my magazine as it is aimed at a younger

audience and it is likely they will have access to these types of technology.
