4) Who would be the audience for your media product? Grey Waters would have a very wide range target audience, however with particular emphasis to the ages ranging from 15- 40 years old. Grey Waters is targeted towards both male and female as the storyline can relate to both genders. Grey Waters would also appeal to both genders because the rest of the movie involves action and romance as well. Grey Waters may mostly relate towards people of lower economic status because the main protagonists is having issues with money and his job. However, people of high economic status could also enjoy the movie due to the fact of a good story line. Furthermore, after the opening sequence (because the movie is of circular structure) Oli starts off as being rich and happy, however gradually becomes weaker and weaker, so this could relate to people of high economy too. This is England is a film aimed towards the working class, mostly teenagers, as the film is set in a council estate and based around teenagers, enabling those of that class and age to relate to the film more. Although the film was rated an 18, and the target audience was teenagers, the Bristol City Council overturned this certificate to allow the target audience to see it. I agree with this in terms to my film because I feel like people of the working class and young adults are going to want to watch the movie. People ranging from 45 and above may not be as interested in Grey Waters because it may not relate to them. As there were only 4885 45+ viewers from IMDB’s website of This Is England out of 90740. Lastly, statistics show that Drama movies are extremely popular in the UK as one in four UK films is a Drama, however, they only make up 7% of UK box office. Furthermore, 27% of film releases in UK cinemas are dramas, which is the highest percentage. This shows that Grey Waters will be popular with UK audiences.
