3. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DSTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND

WHY?

There are many factors that impact the which media institution we would use:

• Due to the popularity and budget of our piece the media institution we would use would be an independent one. This is due mostly to the lack of features typical with big budget Hollywood films. Our film would not need such a wide spread distribution and probably wont be released to a cinema as it doesn’t have any audience big enough to pay to watch.

• These Hollywood films would also, along with a widespread and expensive distribution, have a very large marketing campaign. This would reach out to a large number of people, which with our small piece we do not have the budget for either.

• Examples of an independent film company that could distribute our film from the UK is the: independent film company or supernova films.

• At the moment they both have a number of small time movies with a various level of known actors. These films seem low budget and the main way they have been distributed is via iTunes, DVD, Netflix and the newly popular Blu-ray. Missing the cinema completely.

They have a wide range of thrillers that they have in production and that they have produced already. There are two films that caught my eye on both websites. These are: Level Up & The Vortex. Level up involves a character looking after a case/package, similar to our own piece. The Vortex involves a group of American soldiers going after to find a scientist gone rogue. This is an action thriller that we feel is similar to our own. Although it later becomes a bit far fetch we feel that this company will be able to cater for our needs as a distribution company and that our film will fit in their portfolio well.

• The media institutions follow the path we would like to take to distribute our film as it is the path more likely to attract the audience we want.

INDEPENDENT FILM COMPANY

MATT and ANNA are a young couple living in London. Anna is starting her career and knows what she wants, whilst Matt is still struggling to find his purpose in life. On the surface they are happy but tensions are beginning to mount.

Then one morning masked thugs break into the flat and kidnap Anna before assaulting Matt, locking him into a mysterious vest and leaving him a mobile phone. Matt is told the vest contains a package which he must deliver by following instructions issued to him via the mobile phone. If he fails, tries to seek help, or deviates from their instructions, they will kill Anna.

Over the course of one day Matt has to make his way across London in a desperate bid to save his girlfriend as a host of characters attempt to derail him from his mission.
