How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Evaluation Question 2:

The text:We used the same font throughout our work so our title was consistent and could become a well recognised title for our show. For our smaller fonts we used a messier handwritten type font in the print, and in our video we also did this by writing out our credits with doodles on the whiteboard to show the credits.

The colour scheme:We used the school uniform colours throughout each part of our work, the main colours being green, red and yellow. We feel this managed to

establish our school theme well.

We used the same four main characters throughout our products. By doing this we think we made our cast become

easily recognisable as they appear in each element of our work and by showing the same face in each part our products all link

together well.

We also feel that by doing this we managed to create strong characters

with unique personality traits.

The characters:

In our video, we made Erik’s character ‘the boy genius’. We did this by making him stand proud with his arms folded on his name clip, and then we had him looking into his locker at a picture of “I love ∏” showing his dedication to maths. We also show a bully walking past and pushing him into his locker which added to his geeky character.

In the print, we carried this “boy genius” theme through by using a picture of him looking proud and intelligent, fixing his tie, and on the back of the DVD we used a picture of him dropping his glasses, again a characteristic of a geek.

In our video, we wanted to create a head prefect who wanted to be in control. In his clip, we made him look confident and proud of his prefect role with a red prefect tie. We also had a clip of him being locked out of a classroom, as though the other kids were sick of his bossy ways and so had locked him out. In the print, we also created his prefect character by using the red prefect tie again and using a picture of him holding his head high, and we then used another image of him being bullied, which is what you would expect to happen to his type of character.

Chris’s Character:

In our video, we showed Matty as the unfit friend who is usually the butt of the others jokes. We did this by showing him grinning on his name clip, and then we showed him on the field trying to exercise but eventually giving up.

In the print, we carried this theme through by showing pictures of him grinning as though he doesn’t realise people are laughing at him, and not with him. He is standing proud on the photos, with a big grin and his arms folded. We believed this established his character very well.

In our video, we made Osman’s character the ‘ethnic friend’. In his clip we made him quite a cheery character and on our print we had a picture of him grinning. We made him wear glasses with tape around the middle, adding to his geeky character.

In our print, we also made Osman look very cheery with a big grin on his face. We made him wear the taped glasses in the photos to carry his character’s image throughout.

We feel that our final video combined with our print all works together successfully. By using the same colour schemes,

which are the schools colours throughout each part of our work we have managed to keep our products consistent, and we also feel that the ‘Winstanley Road’ title font we used is

very successful for our show and could become very recognisable with the bright red and yellow colour scheme

we have used.

Overall, we think our combined products work together very well to create strong characters and we have managed to

reflect each of their personalities through to our print work.
