PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

Presentation of Gender ■ We wanted to subvert the conventions associated with the

thriller genre in terms of the way gender is presented in our film. Ultimately we made the decision when planning our film to include a female protagonist we wanted to challenge the conventions and stereotypes generally associated with female characters within the thriller genre as they are often seen a the victim or barely represented or accurate presentation is limited throughout the thriller genre.

■ This is similar for our presentation of men in our film as the main focus of our film is on the struggles and the safety of the female main protagonists the male characters are much more minor character in the film opening as a whole. This defies the convention of the thriller genre as this ultimately portrays women as stronger and more resourceful and ultimately luckier than their male counterparts.

Representation of age ■ Our main protagonist and every character

presented in our film where all teenagers, we choose to use teenagers as we wanted to reflect our target audience in our film. As they would be reflected in the film by character who are like them or they can relate to and the fact they are in danger would ultimately create tension between our target audience. Following the convention of the psychological thriller genre by making the setting and costume of the character as realistic and “normal” as possible to focus more on the realism of the situation of the characters.

How did we want our target audience to view our film We wanted our target audience to challenge their initial perception of the main characters through their appearance and the way they act. We also wanted to make our film reflect our audience so we dressed our main protagonist in a stereotypical way so the majority of our audience would feel that the characters accurately present them as a social group.
