Our character…

Our character is some what of a recluse. We have shown this by involving no other character in the film. Our character is doing an activity which most people do together because of the dangers associated with mountain biking. So by only having one character in our film we have shown the audience that our character is someone who likes to do his own thing and his own way. Although he has a reckless characteristic you can see that he is very professional in what he does. He is very meticulous with the way he selects his tools and sets up the bike. You can see that he has done it before as he is making no mistakes when he is setting up the bike. So from looking at all this we can see that this guy is a mountain biker through in and out. By looking at the gear he has with the energy drink patterns on his jersey and his hat he has a particular taste in style, one that is common within the mountain bike community. something that is stereotypical with mountain bikers is their eternal war with road bikers. You can see our character insulting the road biking community when he wears no helmet on the roads. He is showing that the roads our safe but he is taking an interest in safety when he puts on his helmet for the trails. However professional our character may be way must not ignore his arrogance. Specifically when he ignores the warning sign which tells him not to enter a specific place on the trail. Our character thinks he can overcome anything and that the sign there is there for no reason, but ultimately his arrogance determines his fate.

Mountain bikersSince this is mountain biking is the act that our character is performing it is logical to compare him to other mountain bikers. Unsurprisingly our character is very similar to the stereotypes of mountain bikers. He has the same dress since with the jersey and the pants with energy drink logos. Our character has the same needs to go exploring for the trill and the rush of adrenaline. The similarities go on as both our character and mountain bikers have a similar hatred for road bikers. Mountain bikers are obsessed with everything to do with bikes and they will indulge themselves with sites like pinkbike.com. We can therefore assume that the character in our film has the same tastes in pinkbike.com. We as the producers of the film can also confirm this with the audience by posting links on our characters blog. It is very often that you will see mountain bikers crash when they are on their adventures. However we believe that most mountain bikers have higher concern for safety as they travel in numbers which our character does not do. This shows the audience that our character is more reckless than most mountain bikers.

Aron Ralston (127 Hours)Aron Ralston is the sole character from the film called 127 hours. The whole film is about how Aron goes on his own to go and find his sense of adventure and doesn’t tell anyone where he is going. Consequently he gets stuck under a rock and there is no one to help him. 127 hours has an incredibly similar narrative and genre but critically is effectively has the same character as in ‘At the of the trail’. Aron Ralston has the same reckless and arrogant characteristic that our character has. When we see them in in similar situations we can see that they both act the same way and make the same decisions. We see that they are both in the same scenario with a vast landscape with no one to help them. They also both mountain bike (admittedly our character is more focused on mountain biking) and they both crash which shows the audience that the danger of mountain biking and how easy it is to crash. We can speculate that Aron Ralston is more reckless than our character. Although they both make foolish decisions we can conclude this by seeing that Aron Ralston does not wear a helmet when he mountain bikes which is a use of Mise-en-sense which gives the audience an insight into this guys characteristics.
