I’m Tom Bousfield and for my product I have made a music video by a musician called Jamie Gallagher and used his song which is called I’m Happy You’re Happy.

Firstly I have tried to portray the genre of my music as acoustic folk as the song is played with just an acoustic guitar by a solo artist.

• Real conventions of a music video can include showing the artist with a unique style. E.g. always showing the artists in a certain type of clothing(wearing a hat, jeans).

• Close ups of the artists face are often used in music videos as people don’t just watch them for the music but the artist to.

• The other two main conventions can be either showing the artist performing or the artist involved in a storyline. This can often depend on the artist.

• A video can also be totally random and not fit the song or the lyrics

• A song that inspired me to use some of these features is Keith Unban’s song raining on a Sunday where it shows the artist performing but also involved in a story.

My music video is similar to other music videos as it also contains a story. The song is about love so I have decided to make my video based on the lyrics. A lot of other music videos are also about love and fit base their storyline on that too. I have also shown the artist performing as well as a storyline. I did this to appeal to a wider audience. I showed most of the shots in the video of the artist as that is who the audience watch the music video for.

My music video also has many differences to other videos including Keith Urban’s song which is a similar genre. Because my music video is about somebody who is love with someone but they are with someone else I showed the clips of the artist(the person who is in love) in black and white. I have used colour saturation here to emphasize how the artist is feeling. This is unusual and may stand out more than other music videos.

I secondary Genre I used was acoustic/folk

• Some Key features of an acoustic folk music video involve showing the artist performing with there guitar. I think it is best that the dress code is casual e.g. a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. I think this is because the fans of the acoustic/folk genre prefer to watch the music. In Keith Urban’s video it is shown that he shown most whilst playing his guitar as this is his main instrument used in this genre. It also shows the artist with other people having fun but with no specific storyline.

My video uses similar conventions to this artist. It shows the artist playing the guitar. Although there is a storyline in my video it isn’t the main focus and it mainly used to emphasize what the song is about and why it was wrote. An example of this in the video is showing the artist writing the lyrics of the song.

• Although the video as well, it doesn’t show the artist having fun and is emphasized the artist being miserable. This is to reflect the tone of the song and not all acoustic/folk songs are happy.
