PHOTOSHOP Before starting my AS Media Studies course I did

have a basic knowledge of Photoshop from doing my GSCE course.

This can be seen in my Basic Photoshop Skills PowerPoint.

However, to create this magazine I need to develop my skills, especially in image editing.

To create the right signs for my audience I had to edit my images to make them more intense. Furthermore, as some of my images are taken outdoors, I needed to edit the brightness to create a clearer image.

However I did not change the images too drastically as that would not fit in with my indie magazine conventions i.e. ‘airbrushing’ a model’s figure etc.

DSLR CAMERAS AND LIGHTING I took most of the images and my DSLR camera

because I felt this produced a higher quality image within my budget. However for the live images I used my own smartphone camera.

I used different settings to create the right image composition. For example I change the white balanced for my studio images because I wanted my background to be light and bright. I also used reflectors and extra lighting from lamps to increase the white lighting for my image. This helped my image greatly as all I needed to do when editing my images was edit slightly the brightness and contrast.

For my outdoors images, I changed the settings to outdoor, so that my images would not be washed out by the sun.

BLOGGING Slideshare – This allowed me to put my work and research on my

blog. It also allowed me to do further research and present my work neatly and effectively, making it easier to navigate through my work.

Youtube – I used Youtube to upload my video and present it to an audience. I had not previously used Youtube or video editing technology so this gave me a chance to develop new skills and present my work on a different media platform.

Wordpress – I decided to put all my blog work onto the blog website Wordpress. This allowed me to upload any research and ideas quickly and easily from anywhere. It also means that I display my work efficiently and neatly so it is easier to navigate around. I also learn how to change themes, images and widgets to create my own individual blog. Using a blog to present my work meant that I had to embed links, save images and files as JPEGS and put my posts into categories.

Scribd – I did not want all my work to be displayed on just Slideshare formats so when I create my timetable I chose to use Scribd. This allowed me to present Microsoft Word documents onto my blog.
