Mr. Teddy
Evaluation!
In this brief we got set a task to create a
title sequence to a film of our creation. We
named the film Mr Teddy. We found the
name suitable because the main character
would be named ‘Mr Teddy’. The film was
about a man who becomes a spy after the
loss of his Grandma, he doesn’t know
anything about being a spy yet has to take
over his Grandmothers major roll. After
thinking of many ideas for a film we all put
our ideas together and chose our favourite
one. After finally settling with a film idea
we pitched it to the class. When we pitched
the idea to the class we got feedback,
which included some good comments we
were proud of and some negatives which
included the ‘funny clumsy spy’ was too
cliché and also the actors were too
comedic however we did get comments
which included our cast being a ‘funny
quirky duo’.
Pitching our idea to the class…
After story boarding our title sequence it
was time to get to work with filming. We
filmed numerous scenes even though we
came across lots of issues with some
scenes being too hard to film and even a
few which were not possible like the
filming under water. When it came to
editing all the footage we had all together
we decided we didn’t like it. We thought it
didn’t make any sense and also out
computer crashed and we lost lots of our
work so we decided to scrap our original
idea and make a new one. We still used
some of the original footage but we
changed the idea of it so it was so much
easier to film and put together. Once we
edited our new version of our title
sequence we were so much happier with
it. It looked so much better then the old
one.
Throughout the process
of filming we used a
tripod for all of the scenes. We attempted to
use a dolly but it didn’t
work well so we scrapped that scene.
We then showed it to the
class and got more feedback.
It had good and bad
comments but over all we
were happy with the final
results. We got told the sound
and music worked really well
and also the typography was
good but although it had
good parts the audience said
that they didn’t fully
understand what the film was
about plus the over laying
was too distracting.
Our film had a Primary
audience of children and a
secondary audience of
adults and teenagers. The
film would probably appeal
to a Nuclear family. The
film would appeal to both
boys and girls with traits
being humorous, friendly
and also generous. Foe our
film the economic status
would also be Abc 1 class.
We did plenty of research
before and whilst creating our
title sequence including
researching into film studios to
find the right one which fitted
our film, researching into text
and what one fitted in the
sequence best and even
researching into transitions
which match the genre and
title sequence. The information we used helped us
with choosing big decisions,
which made our title
sequence.
The films that inspired
the idea of Mr Teddy are
Get Smart, Pink Panther,
Johnny English, The Naked Gun Trilogy and
The Spy Next Door.
You can tell the genre of the film
through the title sequence in many
ways for example we carefully
chose the type of text we used. We
used a text which were childish
and we though this resembled the
main character very well. The
Transitioned we had were sliding
off the screen and we decided this
connoted action and running, this
relates to the film. We chose a fun,
loud sound in the background that
to us connoted a spy. In our
feedback it was said that people
enjoyed the music and that it went
with the title sequence.
In our film we made the
main character who was the
spy be stereotypical, we had
him in a smart suit and in
some scenes we see him
carry a gun. We used a brief
case too, which made
appearances in the title
sequence. In my opinion we
reached our target audience
by making the title sequence
fun, understandable (for our
primary audience) and
humorous.
In my opinion the end product isn’t as
good as the group had hoped
considering we changed our original
idea and made incredibly different
from what we had imagined at the
start of the project. I think some areas
in the title sequence work really well
and I really like for example the
typography, the transitions and music
but others I don’t think were as good
like the acting in the background or
the way we put scenes that over
lapped each other. If we were to do
this project again I think we should
create a more simple title sequence,
which would be so much easier to
create and put together.
