My magazine fits the visual conventions of a magazine, as shown on the previous slide.

However, it breaks the conventions because it is a magazine for new/unsigned acts, making the magazine original.

My other pages also fit the conventions of a magazine, visually and the contents of it.

I have included an extra page introducing my double page spread, this is not breaking

conventions, but it is not often used.

Conventions of a music magazine

Page 4: Evaluation

My magazine is aimed at people aged between 16 and 20.

All of the images portray bands and people of similar age, whichattracts that audience.

It publicises quite a few genre’s of music: indie, acoustic, folk, alternative, rock, electro, and drum and bass. This encourages a

wideraudience.

It includes adverts for fashion, gigs, festivals, music, food and alcohol,

which are all part of teenage life.

The bright colours and bold busy pages attract young people because

it appears informal and exciting.

Audience

Page 5: Evaluation

I have used chatty, informal language that young people are used to and can relate to.

I tried to take and include photographs that were fun and good to look at, alsoincluding typical teenage fashions and people, I have made them all brightly coloured toadd to the interest. I have tried to include lots of photographs in relation to the amountof text because people said they’d prefer more pictures to text, or an equal balance.

The audience feedback has proven that all of the thing I took into account have workedbecause they all said it was attractive to them and most said they would subscribe.

I have really tried to make my front cover interesting and attractive to young peoplebecause 70% of people buy a magazine by seeing it’s cover. I have tried to achieve thiswith the layout, colours and cover lines.

My magazine would probably be independently

distributed because it’s such a differentmagazine. However, if it was to have a big namedpublisher it would Bauer, because they

publishmagazines such as Q and Kerrang!

During this project I have used…• Gimp Editing Software• Paint• Microsoft Office Publisher• Microsoft Word• Cameras for photos and video• Blogs• Polls

I have learnt more about taking photographs effectively and how

positioning and editing can affect a photo. I have also learnt thebasics of how to use the program Gimp, which has helped a lotwhen editing photos and titles. This has been effective as

responsehas been positive about the colours and photographs used.

Since the prelim task of making a student magazine, I think mydesigning and editing skills have improved, also my understanding ofhouse style and conventions of a magazine or articles has improvedmassively. I have also learnt more about what people look for in amagazine, and how it’s affected by current economic climates. However for some the price of my magazine was quite high, although itis cheaper than Q and The Big Cheese and it is and independentmagazine.

Overall, I am really pleased with my magazine, the audience feedbackwas really positive and I’m pleased that my original idea has proven agood one.

What have I learnt?
