Independent distributors

they generate their profit. • The internet plays a vital role as it enables

them to distribute their product globally.

What kind of distribution would my product benefit from?

• In my opinion a major distributor would be beneficial for my music magazine. This is because I feel that my target audience would be more likely to access my product from retail stores (HMV), this is where magazine NME are sold. Therefore because my inspiration is NME it would be ideal that it will be likely to be sold in the same market.

• However I also think that my magazine would also be seen in independent stores, this is because indie/rock music magazine don’t tend to have a mainstream approach as opposed to a pop music magazines. This is because I feel that I have a niche audience, whereas magazine such as pop tend to target a mass audience of teenage girls.

A distributor which suit my product:

• IPC Media is a distributor that I think will suit my product. This Is because this is the distributor for NMEmagazine. NME magazine is the inspiration of my music magazine. IPC Media “is a consumer magazine and digital publisher in the United Kingdom, with a large portfolio selling over 350 million copies each year.” Therefore for my magazine to distributor on a mass scale IPC Media serve as a perfect distributor.

http://www.ipcmedia.com/nme• From the link above in states that “NME is the longest published and most respected music weekly in

the world.” This shows the success that IPC Media have had with magazines similar to mine like NME and how they have “intensely engaged audience of 16-24 year-olds.”. This is the target audience similar to mine, therefore the skills that were used to distribute NME could be used to distribute my product. Furthermore, it is evident from the website above that IPC Media have a good reputation, this would help distribute my magazine on a global scale which would generate good profit and a lot of popularity.

• If my magazine was to be put in a magazine industry context, I would hope that it would follow in the same footsteps as IPC Media have had with NME.

Advertising my product through different media platforms.

• TV and Radio-TV is an essential component as many people have access to satellite. Therefore this would be an effective way in which my music magazine will target my audience, as many teenagers will find time to watch TV in their leisure time or after school. This would be the same for young adults after university which is also the target audience for my product, however I think radio will be an effective way in targeting them as this is the time that they will have access to cars and will be learning how to drive. Radio 1 is the ideal radio station to advertise my product as the music that is played on Radio1 slightly parallels the theme of my music magazine. It is also increasingly becoming more and more popular which would help my product target a wider audience.

• Internet/Social Networking/Youtube –Due to the dependent of people on new technology (Article The Rise of Digital Media) I think social networking sites will help me advertise my magazine. This could be done via Facebook or Twitter where various new information, updates, competitions will be posted to keep my target audience attracted to my media product. The amount of “Likes” or “Followers” my magazine get will give an indication as to how many copies need to produced and sold to my target audience. Youtube video will advertise new stories/ articles of artist which I think will entice my target audience. Digital technology will allow my target audience to access my music magazine effectively.

• Poster advertisement-If my magazine poster were seen in public places such as bus stations, cinemas, clothes shops this will generate mutual interests and give my magazine the recognition to target a wider audience.

• MBS- Website-If I was to set up my own website it will give the produce and the consumer an interactive time in gaining more knowledge on my magazine. Due to the subscription box on my contents page and website will be essential as it will give the chance for my audience to get discount prices which will encourage them to purchase the magazine more often. On my website I would include extra exclusives, offers, music interviews and posters. These could be accessed via download to gadgets such as IPods, IPhones, Smartphones and Touch Screen Tablets. This would also allow my magazine to have a unique app feature which I think will be effective for my audience to access my magazine. This is because my magazine could be sold digital thanks to new technology, offering a condensed version so latest news could be read quickly.
