Effective Combinations of Media Texts

Introduction

We were set a task to create a Music Video, we were then told we should also create Music Video Promotional material for the same artist across three different platforms therefore creating convergence and also requiring a definitive house style.

Music Video (Main Task)

For my music video I used different conventions of a pop genre music video , I chose this genre as I believed that it would show a diversity in the different covemtioms to create an overall unique house style. This included, the shot types and movements which we used. This was unique as we used a mixture of medium close up shots and long distance shots whilst also creating a fast paced video with a multitude of screens and shots appering and dissapearing to help tell the story of the video.I chose this style because I felt that it would appropriately represent the artist whilst giving the audience a sense of raw reality to the video, I wanted my target audience to understand the realism of the video and how this effects a large population. I want the audience to understand that they deserve respect and they should be willing to try and get that any way possible.

Digipak and Magazine Advertisment (Ancillary Tasks)

When creating my digipak and magazine advert I used a variety of conventions to create a distinct style to the products. The first thing I used was a house style throughout, this was to keep in line with the product and the music video, this was done by using the same colour (purple) throughout the products, I also used the same typography throughout the artists name and the name of the album, I then used the same typography when creating the track list and the name of the record company, this was to link the two together so that I could show the production side and the performing side in subtle ways. My use of the main images was to show the same style as within the music video, this was so that I could keep within the unique style of the video throughout the digipak. The layout and design was also kept the same throughout to stay true to the product and stick with the unique house style. I chose this style to create a new and unique piece of artwork for the artist showing a strong main colour of purple to show how the artist is a strong and independent woman. I want my target audience to interpret the style so that they can feel strong willed and be bold in day to day life.

Creating Synergy

To present synergy throughout all three media products I used elements of a house style throughout each of the products to help each one connect together visually. During my planning I decided to use the same effects within the video on certain elements of the digipak and advert, such as, main images. This was then kept as the house style within the production stage of the products to with-hold the house style.

Within the products I found that they create a unique style throughout; however I believe that synergy works better within the digipak and magazine advert as they both show more similarities in the products whereas the music video only shows some of the key elements and conventions. If I were to change anything to help create better synergy I would change effects within the music video which would help link the video more towards the digipak and advert, this would create a better brand identity for the artist as it would make a stronger house style which the audience can link to other products the artist has made.

Conclusion

To conclude I ensured that all three products acted as a form of advertisement as the video shows how the artist can both perform and narrate a story through music, the digipak shows the artist indirectly covering her ears as if she was recording therefore performing her album in the studio, especially within the CD cover it has blurred lines on the cover which can represent the sound waves of the music therefore helping to confirm the identity that the artist is performing within a studio.
