I used the BBC South Today ident as our news station is called Hampshire News which is in the south. It is also a key feature of a news report so the audience will immediately recognise that they are watching a news report.

I used a ticker along the bottom of the screen telling the viewer the time, the name of the news station and the main news stories. The ticker gives the audience something to look at whilst I am talking which makes the shot a lot more interesting. Tickers are a very common technique in news reports so by using one means

that the audience will clearly recognise it is a news report. My ticker is very similar to the BBC news one as we include similar information and use the colour scheme of our news station.

We projected the pictures of the victims behind the news anchor so the audience knows who we are talking about. It also makes the shot look like a real news studio as this feature is regularly used in news reports.

When doing the interview with Gretel we used a silhouette with a voiceover as this is a technique often used when a trial is ongoing and the victim does not want their identity to be shown as it may be dangerous or affect their trial.

Similarly, the BBC used this technique to protect someone’s identity when they were revealing information about a secret and illegal group.

When doing the public’s opinions we used a rule of 3rds, where the action happens in only one third of the shot. This makes the shot more interesting and dynamic and is commonly used in interviews so will help the audience recognise it is a news report.
