The background is black and white, which is used to create a narrative affect. In the Soulja Boy video, this affect is used to show a flashback of him recording music from a basic headphone and mic set up.

In my video, I have tried to portray a similar narrative. The artist has a flashback of when he was recording the song in the past. The flashbacks are represented by the black and white effect. He is also recording on headphones and a mic similar to Soulja Boy.

This image represents self reflectivity, in that the artist is looking at himself in the mirror. The fact that his hand is covering his mouth indicates that he is surprised or stunned at what he has done. This is Goodwin’s theory, Notion of looking, in that the artist is attracting the audience.

This video shows J Cole, a Hip Hop/RnB artist performing on stage with lighting. He is also holding a microphone which can be seen as a genre characteristic. This is known as a performance based music video. It consists of a fast cut montage.

Lastly, the t-shirt wore by rapper Drake, is Ralph Lauren Polo, an iconic brand in hip hop culture. It is seen as a image motif because it is a piece of clothing used to represent a certain style. Artists can use clothing as unique selling points.

The artist in my video can also been seen wearing a Ralph Lauren Polo. This is one of the biggest brands used in hip hop. It represents a lifestyle; however it most importantly shows genre characteristics of hip hop

In my video, the artist is also on a stage performing. He is holding a mic, which relates to the hip hop culture. The lighting is also visible. I wanted to create a performance based video because I think it is the best option when trying to portray this genre of music because it

I have tried to illustrate the same effect in my video, in that the scene is edited, mine being black and white, whilst Drake’s being slightly more saturated. The artist is also looking at himself in the mirror, showing that he is nervous, Joint hands over his mouth represent this.
