Welcome to the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry 2015
On behalf of the Scientific and Organizing Committees, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry in the City of Münster. The conference will provide an international forum to share knowledge and to exchange ideas on instrumentation, methods and applications based on analytical plasmas with colleagues from all over the world.
While plasma spectrochemistry has a rich and successful history, its future progress will crucially depend on the exchange between scientists from different disciplines. As is obvious from the large number of submitted abstracts on these contents, plasma spectrochemistry maintains its leading position in the materials sciences and the earth sciences, and expands significantly into the life sciences. Therefore, international and interdisciplinary research will be a driving force to address the challenges ahead. Our common aim is to catalyze these activities at the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry 2015.
For this reason, we have planned ample time for discussions after the lectures as well as in the poster and exhibition areas. Lunch will be available in the university cafeteria, just a few steps away from the conference site. The manufacturers will provide product seminars after lunch to inform about their latest developments. The social programme includes a welcome reception after the initial evening lectures on Sunday, the conference dinner in Münster´s Zoo plus guided tours and other highlights on Monday, a guided city walk followed by various manufacturers´ events on Tuesday and the traditional Hot Plasma Party with life music on the shores of lake Aasee on Wednesday.
As young scientists are the future of our discipline, we have tried to stimulate their participation by low conference fees for graduate students, strongly discounted fees for the conference dinner and the Hot Plasma Party and by including a significant number of oral presentations held by young scientists. Poster prizes will be awarded as well to appreciate their contributions.
Finances always are an important issue for a conference of this size. Therefore, our particular thanks go to all sponsors and exhibitors of the symposium, who helped to keep registration affordable.
Let us all look forward to the European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry 2015 in the beautiful, historic city of Münster and let us hope that we will experience a rewarding and unforgettable symposium!

Special issue of “Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectroscopy”
EWCPS 2015’s scientific committee and local organizers are pleased to announce that our recommended avenue for manuscript publication resulting from the presentations during the conference is in a special issue of Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry (JAAS).
Submitted papers based on oral or poster presentations given at EWCPS 2015 will be considered for publication as original research papers in JAAS (i.e. full papers and urgent communications).
Manuscripts for this special issue are asked to be submitted subsequent to the con-ference via the journal website www.rsc.org/jaas using the RSC electronic file upload service. Submitted manuscripts should be in the format laid out in the „Instructions to Authors“ available on the website (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ja).
the submission deadline will be april 10, 2015. Every effort will be made to include all accepted papers in the themed issue. However, accepted papers being not processed in time will be published in the next available printed JAAS issue, and included within the web collection of articles from the conference on the JAAS website.
Each manuscript deemed suitable for consideration as a submission will be subject to the established peer-review process and shall only be accepted if it fulfils the standards required for publication in JAAS.
Accepted papers will be published on the RSC website as Advance Articles as soon as they are ready. The printed issue is provisionally scheduled to be published in August 2015.

Conference dinner at Münster Zoo
On Monday evening, the conference dinner takes place at Münster Zoo, which is located pretty close to lake Aasee and presently being home for more than 3,100 animals. Münster Zoo, opened in 1974, is famous for being an „all weather zoo“, which means that enclosu-res are connected by canopied ways. Thus, visitors can walk for more than 1 km even when it is raining. Furthermore, on rainy days the zoo‘s inhabitants, from ara birds to zebras, may return into their houses where they can be watched by the visitors. Each year, around one million people from Germany and from neighbouring countries come to visit Münster Zoo. On today‘s evening, the zoo is exclusively opened for EWCPS 2015‘s conferees. Enjoy to walk around, to enjoy the aquarium, to feed the elephants, to fondle a snake, or just to take the opportunity to take part in one of the guided tours led by Münster Zoo staff. For those who need a rest, there are many places to sit down in different areas. Food and drinks are served at different locations in the zoo; a map provided to the conferees at the entrance will guide you to the restaurant and catering stations. Or just follow the illuminated paths to meet other EWCPS 2015 participants – close to the elephants, in the aquarium or in the horse museum....

After the last talk will have been finished, buses will take you from the conference venue to the city centre. Looking back to a history of more than 1200 years, Münster is full of historic buildings and places. A guided city tour (one hour) will lead you to Münster’s most famous attractions, e.g. the town hall where sections of the Tre-aty of Westphalia were negotiated or Münster cathedral which, in its present form, was built 750 years ago.
