History

• The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work was set up in Spain in 1996 with a mission ‘to make Europe's workplaces safer, healthier and more productive’

• In 2000 the European Safety at Work Week was introduced and is traditionally run on the third week of October each year

• Each year the agency focuses on a topical theme, producing materials for employers to use in order to raise awareness in the workplace

Focus for 2011/12…….

Maintenance has implications for safety in many ways:

• Keeping up to date with our maintenance responsibilities will reduce the risk of inadvertent failures

•Conducting maintenance can often expose operatives to more risk

•The design of equipment is often the stage where many built in risks can be removed

Is safe maintenance a critical factor for EDF Energy?
