EUROPEAN ROBOTICS FORUM, March 22-24 2017
VisitBritain Support Evaluation Report Date of report: May 31st, 2017
Contact: Dr. Helen Hastie, [email protected] This report evaluates the publicity campaign for ERF 2017, which was supported by VisitBritain. The ‘Innovation is Great’ logo was placed on the conference and Robohub websites, in the IEEE Spectrum magazine, on banners included in social media and on the conference bags. The conference was a major success with a record number of attendees coming from all over Europe and worldwide. Below, we break down the evaluation per the agreed evaluation plan in terms of: 1) Google analytics, 2) social media metrics, 3) delegate feedback, 4) advertising KPIs and 5) press coverage.
1) Google Analytics Report
Here, we present Google analytics for the ERF2017 website with the Innovation is Great logo (screenshot of website below). Analytics reflect activity for a year, with the website going live October 1st, 2016. We present here also the location of the website visitors including the top 10 countries.

The conference was also advertised through a banner on the Robohub website (see below), hyper-linking to the conference website. The IEEE Spectrum newsletter reached 84,288 people. Finally, the conference was also advertised on the EU Robotics website.
2) Social media metrics
ERF 2017 was publicised widely on Twitter (#ERF2017) and on the EU Robotics Facebook page. The analysis for twitter is given below with 500 posts and one million impressions. A summary of the tweets can be found here. The videos on the EU Robotics Forum Facebook page had 874 views.

3) Delegate attendees
The conference hosted 805 delegates as well as invited guests such as the Minister, Keith Brown and members of the press. Below gives a table of origin of the registered delegates, whilst the country with the most attendees was UK (30%), it is clear that the publicity campaign reached all over Europe as well as internationally (see pie-chart below). Note that the target for delegates was 800.
A post conference questionnaire showed that most people learned about ERF through their connections with euRobotics (see below).
6
Other metrics from the questionnaire showed that 97.3% rated the overall concept of the event and 95.3% rated the venue/place either 3 or 4 with 4 being ‘excellent’ on a 4-point rating scale.
4) Advertising KPIs in conjunction with Carat
At the writing of this report the following analysis was available from Carat for the Google Ads words: “Business robotics", "European robotics“, “Robotics conference” and “Robotics funding”.
5) Press coverage
At the event there were 15-20 members of the local, national and European press. Below is a list of press coverage in the build-up, during and post-conference.

Acknowledgement The ERF 2017 publicity campaign was successful and resulted in over 800 delegates attending and a large amount of positive publicity for robotics and tourism in the UK. The support from VisitBritain greatly facilitated this publicity, particularly on-line and the ERF 2017 organising committee would like to acknowledge and thank VisitBritain for their support.
