Investment
• The EU and Canada have strong ties with respect to foreign directinvestment:• European investors held investments worth EUR 249 billion in Canada in 2015• Canadian direct investment stock in EU amounted to EUR 228 billion in 2015
• EU investors will benefit from the increase in threshold for the review ofacquisition of Canadian companies (pre CETA CAD 354 million to post CETACAD 1.5 billion).
• More precise investment protection standards, new and clearer rules on theconduct of procedures
• This should ensure a high level of protection of investors, while fullypreserving the right of governments to regulate
• CETA is the first agreement that puts all EU investors on the same footing, whether from large or smaller Member States
