Mounted reversible ploughsEurOpal and VariOpal
Perfect engineering
All LEMKEN mounted ploughsfeature the modern UNITURNhydraulic turnover mechanism withdouble-acting ram and integratedlock valve. This means precise onquick turnover action and no read-justment of the plough angle duringploughing, even when there’s leak-age or loss of pressure in the tractorhydraulics.
Reliable turnovermechanism
The short and strong turnover shaftin the plough headstock is not weak-ened through any welded joints andcan withstand hard shock loads. Thedurable shaft runs on taper rollerbearings which are centrallygreased. The pivot linkage is specially pro-tected against wear, made of specialquality steel for immense strengthand long working life.
Turnover shaftand pivot linkage
The change over valve is positionedin a protected location, firmlyattached alongside the ram. Thispositioning means the valve unitscan be rapidly replaced and extend-ed. With an oil return flow connec-tion to the tractor oil reservoir,LEMKEN mounted reversibleploughs can also be used on trac-tors with single acting spool valve.
Theturnover ram
Better work quality
The height-adjustable drawbar canbe adjusted for all conditions allow-ing optimum setting of lower links. The drawbar can be rapidly and eas-ily exchanged to match other linkagecategories. Tractor and implementare protected because the elasticdrawbar acts as shock absorber.
Height-adjustabledrawbar
LEMKEN ploughs are service-friendly.Tools, shear bolts and other bits andpieces are right at hand at any time.
Toolboxes in theheadstock
The plough angle for each ploughside is individually adjustable by capnuts. The cap nuts are easy to turnand at the same time stop dirt get-ting into the threads. Setting up theplough angle is thus always an easytask.

Optiquick for precise plough setting
The unbeatable Optiquick system means the plough iseasier than ever to pull. Front furrow width and tractor-plough alignment are simply and quickly adjustable.
The EurOpal Optiquick (Trulign)adjustment centre
The front furrow width is set by the outer turnbuckle. Thetractor is still affected by side draught because thetractor-plough alignment (the line joining points Z andPZ) does not cross the tractor rear axle in the middle (M).The side draught is removed by turning the inner turn-buckle. Now, the tractor-plough alignment crosses thetractor rear axle at point M and side draught is reducedto zero. Despite the draught point being changed, frontfurrow width remains the same.

No side draught – whatever the working width
Alter altering the working width an automatic adaptationof front furrow width as well as optimum tractor/ploughalignment take place so what one get with every workingwidth adjustment is a tractor-plough alignment thatpasses right through the middle of the tractor rear axle.
All pivot points of the Optiquick adjustment centrefeature wear-resistant bushes, hardened bolts, and canbe lubricated, guaranteeing immense strength and longworking life.

Automatic adaptionto different working widths
VariOpal for wide or narrow furrows
The different ploughing demandscan be met perfectly by the LEMKENVariOpal.Good quality ploughing is closelyassociated with the precision offurrow width and depth produced bythe individual bodies.

These ploughsmean you can always exploit yourtractor power to the full.
Furrows for every situation
Soil type, moisture content, plough-ing for immediate sowing (seed fur-rows) or for good weathering overwinter all have different demands onthe plough setting – and this is whythe simple and quick adjustment offurrow width during the actual ploughing operation is so important. All tools like skimmers and disesautomatically readjust, as does thedepth wheel, when furrow width isaltered.

Easily adjustable
With standard models, workingwidth is adjusted manually with aturnbuckle. Special equipment includes stepless adjusting of furrowwidth with double-acting hydraulicram (a).

The VariOpaladjustment system
The memory ram (b) is recommendedwith ploughs for four or more furrows. As well as hydraulic adjustment ofworking width, this offers an addition-al function: during turnover the frameis swung inward to give the neces-sary ground clearance at the depthwheel. The memory ram guaranteesthat the working width set before theturnover procedure is in each caseautomatically re-established. An easi-ly readable scale shows the tractordriver the working width setting (c).

Strong frame construction
The strong, thick-walled box sectionframe of micro-alloy fine-grain spe-cial steel gives the solid basis for thisnew frame construction. The framescan be extended to take another pairof plough bodies. Special features:low weight combined with a longworking life.
Box section frame
Large interbody clearances, ploughbodies which are attached laterallyto the frame and the new shape ofthe plough legs all work together togive unusually large interbody clearances. This means that blockages are avoided, even at closesettings for narrow furrows. Plough legs come with double-cutshearbolts as standard. Their pro-gressive action ensures safe workingand guarantees no twisting ofplough legs.
Interbody clearance
The EurOpal leg brackets are firmlybolted to the frame and this givesimmense strength.Following loosening of the centralbolt, four different working widthsbetween 30 and 50 cm can bequickly and easily selected. Otherequipment such as skimmers anddisc coulters are automaticallyadjusted at the same time.
Adjustable leg brackets
VariOpal working width adjustment
The frame plates for the mounting ofthe adjustable brackets and mainlink are bolted to the frame. Thisgives immense strength, increaseddurability and a high degree of con-structional precision.
The frame plates
The main pivot pin of the Vari pivotbrackets are equipped with busheslocked securely with the frameplates. Each Vari pivot bracket isalso fitted with tight-locking bush-ings. In this way the two lubricatedbushes running one within the otherguarantee long working life for thefurrow width adjustment pivotpoints, even under toughest condi -tions. Each component can be sepa-rately replaced in case of wear.
The Vari pivot brackets
The pivot of each pivot bracketwhich is located laterally to theframe aligns closely with the centreof effort of the plough body. Thismeans only limited stresses areapplied at the pivot point and associated components. All pivotpoints feature wear-resistant bushes, hardened pins and lubrication pointsguaranteeing highest durability andlong working life.

Tandem overload safety system
The plough body is tripped withoutshock loads through the double coilspring system or hydraulic ram. Apatented roller system ensures thatthe force at the point decreases gradually when tripping, increasingprogressively with the body re- entering the soil. High trip and re-entry forces provide firm guidance ofthe plough body and Non-Stopploughing on stony ground.
The forces atthe share point
When the plough makes contactwith an obstacle the elastic, highquality tempered spring-steel beamsand plough legs are able to „side-step” to an unusual degree. Duringthis movement each beam is firmlyguided so that there is no way it canspring out of its mounting. Both legbracket and beam with the roller arebolted and not welded. This meansgreat strength and long life for theunits of the overload safety system.
Reaction at obstacles
Neither at trip or re-entry does anysignificant amount of frictional resis-tance occur at the spacing rollerbetween the tandem beams. Thismeans that force losses at re-entryof a plough body are reduced to aminimum. The result is a consis tenttripping characteristic: gentle andshock-free followed by powerful, rapid re-entry of the plough body.

HydriX hydraulic overload safety system
Trip force is easily adjusted – andthis is important, especially whenploughing in stony conditions withrapidly changing types of soil. Withthe LEMKEN HydriX hydraulic version, the pressure in the hydraulicsystem can be adjusted individually:in light soil conditions ploughingtakes place with trip forces as low aspossible so that stones are left underthe soil surface. Changing to heaviersoils or harder ground conditions thetractor driver increases the pressurewith the tractor controls so that theplough bodies are firmly kept at working depth.
Variable pressureadjustment
Even where the share point is firmlycaught under a stone, tree root orrock ridge, all LEMKEN ploughs areprotected against damage by anadditional shear bolt device as standard. A new shear bolt is quicklyand easily replaced and the workcan restard as easily as that.
Overload security
The adjustment range, controlled byhandwheel on the control block, isbetween 50 and 140 bar. – Individual limits for specific areas
can be set at the plough controlblock and activated through thecontrols from the tractor seat.
– Readjustments with manometerobservations are not necessary.
– The firm connection between beamand frame enables low systempressures to be applied with theHydriX overload safety system.
Adjustment rangeand maintenance
The economic plough body
The frog is hardened and temperedand thus immensely strong. Theplough body is adjustable for pitchand thus always allows good entryinto the soil. The smooth transitionfrom share to mouldboard and thelow-resistance shape make theplough even lighter to pull. The mouldboard is made of hard-ened special steel with a low-wearshape and no bolts in the mainwear zones. The extra large mould-board shin is a separate compo-nent and thus cost-efficientlyreplaceable.
The Dural body
Low wear and good entry charac-teristics are guaranteed for thereplaceable share points throughtheir strength, material and form. The extra broad landsides andlarge soil contact area ensure amore positive plough guidanceand these can be turned four waysto give maximum possible wearlife. The sword coulter offers asubstantially greater proportion ofwearing area for optimum utilisa-tion. The attachment area lies inthe „shadow” of the cutting edgeand so is protected from wear anddamage. Through the angling ofthe cutting edge to the rear andabove there’s no opportunity forstones, roots, or other objects, tojam.A special hard metal coating onthe share points gives an up untilnow unbeatable working life andsubstantially higher cost-effective-ness. The points are hardfaced onone side from below, producing aself-sharpening effect.
Plough body construction
The slats of the slatted body are ofthick, completely hardened, spe-cial steel and individuallyexchange able. The securing boltsare deeply countersunk to guaran-tee that slats still remain firmlyattached after extremely longusage. Slatted bodies and normalmouldboards are based on thesame frog. The share componentsare separate and of micro-alloyedboron steel. Their overlappingattachment avoids snagging ofroots or other foreign bodies. Highmaterial density and strongattachment guarantee low wearand resistance against breakages. The available wearing zones onthe wing are considerably largerthan with common shares.

Safe and secure on field and road
The special construction enables alarge ground clearance allowingsafe and shock-free pivoting of thewheel during the turning proce-dure. The system also ensures theoptimum working position for thewheel. The wheel is so positionedon the frame that, depending onthe number of furrows and theworking width, ploughing can con-tinue right up to the edge of ditch-es, fences or field edges, etc.Ploughing depth can be adjustedquickly and easily via pin adjuster.Readjustment of the wheel takesplace auto matically when workingwidth is changed.
The depth control wheel
For optimum ploughing the workingdepth must be maintained at a cons-tant level through adjustments to copewith different soil conditions. Thedepth and transport wheel for moun-ted reversible ploughs enables hydrau-lic adjustment of ploughing depth fromthe tractor seat. Even where there arechanges within a single bout betweenlight and heavy soil conditions thehydraulic adjustment system ensuresploughing continues at constantdepth. Nor does the driver have toleave the cab for any adjustments forthe shallower finishing bout. The wheel can be optimally positionedfor working depth using a double-acting hydraulic spool valve. A clearlyvisible scale shows the driver the actu-al working depth. The correspondinghydraulic ram is integrated into theframe-work of the wheel and thus wellprotected from being dirtied or dama-ged. An automatic lock valve ensuresthat set working depth is main tainedeven when there are leaks in the trac-tor hydraulic system. The scraper onthe wheel prevents blockages throughsticking of soil or vegetation.
Hydraulicadjustment
Recommended for ploughs of fourfurrows and more is the combineddepth and transport wheel. Thisso-called uni-wheel is easilymoved from working to transportposition and back again. Withouthaving to raise the wheel, workingdepth is rapidly set via pin adjuster. The plough is transported in half-turn position. The depth and trans-port wheel also runs backwards foreasy reversing of tractor andplough. When using the uni-wheelthe frame is locked in the middle intransport position. The lockingsystem is easy to operate, requiresno effort and is easily accessible. The locking pin slips automaticallyinto its position.

Fitting the skimmer onto a flat stalkavoids danger of them twisting. Allshares and mouldboard variants canbe exchanged without any problembecause the frog is the same. Forploughing without skimmers thesecan be quickly removed becauseonly two bolts have to be loosenedin each case.
The flat stalk
With EurOpal and VariOpal ploughswith automatic overload safetysystems the skimmers can bemoved along the beams. Workingdepth adjustment is made with pinsand therefore no-tool are required. For the ability to adjust the angle, round stalks are available.
The working depth
The EurOpal and the VariOpal withshear bolt device are available withindividual quick adjustment systemfor the skimmer angle. This allowsprecise aiming of the trash flow.
The angle adjustment
Ready for action in tough conditions
The special D1, M3 und M2 skim-mers ensure a clean ploughed sur-face even when there’s a lot of sur-face trash. Their working depth isquickly and easily set by pinsadjuster with the row of holes in theskim stalk enabling exact andconsistent setting for uniform qualityof work from all skimmers. D1 andM2 skimmers can be orderedequipped with tailpieces.
The skimmers
No-tool rapid adjustment
Their special shape gives a verygood loosening effect. The subsoil-ers are adjustable for depth withoutany tools and can also be easilyremoved where required. All wearingparts can be individually exchanged. The tine protection prevents wear onthe tines.
Subsoilers
The trash boards are fitted directly tothe mouldboards and are multipleadjustable. These enable blockage-free work and clean incorporation ofplant material.
Trash boards
The plain 500 mm diameter disccoulters feature side mouldingswhich encourage the disc to keeprevolving even when cutting througha lot of organic material. Depthadjustment is through vertical swiv-elling of each coulter arm which isscrew-locked into a toothed bracket. The adjustable bearings, fitted withplain side towards the ploughedland, are double sealed against dirtingress.
Disc coulters
Electronic plough control
The increasing adjustment possibilities on modernmounted reversible ploughs require more and moreattention from the operator. For simplifying VariOpal mounted reversible ploughing, all the plough functions can be activated and monitoredfrom the tractor seat via operating terminal and job- computer.
The LEMKEN terminal
The necessary sensors and hydraulic control blocks areintegrated in the turning and front furrow adjustment ramand thus represent a compact unit. Continuous controlof the ploughing positions is possible through monitoringthe cylinder positions.
The hydraulics
Ploughing onland and in the furrow
Onland ploughing with the EurOpal OF / VariOpal OF isparticularly protective of soil structure in that there is nocompaction risk from tractor wheels running in theplough furrow.Dual wheels can be applied, allowing consistent, soil-protecting power transfer. Side draught can be over -come with a well-ballasted tractor.Cross-slope downhill ploughing is also possible as isploughing close to field or other physical borders withboth onland or in-furrow systems.
Onland
These ploughs allow rapid hydraulic adjustment fromonland to in-furrow mode, for instance for ploughing-inthe last furrows. Ploughing can also carry on in unfavour -able conditions, e.g. on wet ground, with a change to thein-furrow mode. All the advantages offered by the Vari technology can beused with both onland and in-furrow configuration.

The VarioPack furrow presses
The EurOpal and VariOpal furrow press arm can be simply and precisely adjusted through hole plate andpins.Following the picking-up of the furrow press, the pressarm swings from pick-up position to working position. This guides the press closer to the plough and thus minimises pressure on the landside.Alterations can simply and quickly be made for plough-ing with or without press or for road transport. The VariOpal press arm adjusts automatically to theworking width set for the plough. In this way the press ispicked up reliably whatever the working width.
Various models of the VarioPack furrow presses are on offer:– as single row press or double row press– with ring diameters of 700 mm or 900 mm– with ring profiles of 30º or 45º.The press can be matched to plough working widththrough simple mounting or demounting of press rings.
