EUROPAIRITALIA
The market of cruise ship, ferry and offshore
living quarter is growing in continuously.
Many people are daily around in different parts of
the World with various weather conditions.
The passengers demands are always the same :
• comfort in air-conditioning
At the same time, the shipping company needs
to save the necessary energy used to obtain
the “Passenger Satisfaction”; that means saving
the costs and increasingly or recovering the
business profits.
In commercial air conditioning installation,
the “BMS” Building Management System is
normally used just to obtain the maximum
performance from the air conditioning system.
In marine or offshore cabin market, this
management system type is not yet used
also because it is necessary to change some
components and study a new functioning logic.
Europair have developed a new cabin
unit with a regulator that meets this
requirement.
With our system you can obtain :
• constant high passenger comfort
• commissioning cost reduced to
minimum
• cabin management from control room
• cabin status and data communicated
via Network (Ethernet or Mode-Bus)
• energy saving thanks to the “pressure
independent” system and special
management program
• safety system with 3 different security
levels.

ADVANTAGES
Direct visualisation on ship modelManagement system
On the above page you can enter directly the cabin data by date, Deck and
Fire Zone. Is possible to check the set parameters and the real condition
whenever you want.
The page below shows the 2 different possible visualisations.
The diagram shows the set and real the setted and real cabin temperature
and the actual air flow. The “data list” shows the recordered parameters and
permits to have the history of cabin condition. This function is very important
to know the immediate situation of cabin and if necessary to meet and satisfy
any passengers request.

TECHNICAL DATA
The new regulator have the Ethernet integrated module
INTRODUCTIONSystem available on the marketNow the air regulation for naval applications is usually done by “pressure dependent” VAV semiautomatic cabin
unit. The damper setting by an electric motor adjust the air volume flow necessary to guarantee the requested
parameters for room comfort. The electronic regulator for this cabin units changes the air flow depending on the
passengers requests or the room temperature fluctuations only with the input from room temperature thermostat.
During this operation the motor moves the damper for regulating the air flow to satisfy the request but the
damper value regulation must be in the rotation corner position preselected during the commissioning.
Rotation corner setting :
The corner setting according to the technical data is done in the following way :
- measure the supply air flow in the cabin by measuring tools with complete open damper
- manual or electric closing of damper up to the reaching, after several attempts, of the required value for max
air flow
- the same operation is necessary for adjusting the minimum air flow
- setting of the 2 position max - min air flow by electronics or mechanical switches for limit the damper rotation
according to the data measured during the 2 precedent operations
- after the damper operation setting, it is necessary to check again the air flow and adjust other times the
switches for changing the rotation motor corner after a series of cabin adjusted.
Anyway, the method depends on the static pressure in the duct that can change as a consequence of every
single cabin different request. This typology is “Pressure Dependent” because it is unable to control the air flow
but only to change the damper position for temperature changing. The main problem consists in the adjusting
of air flow only when the thermostat feels the changed temperature or for a different room request; with this
regulation the HVAC system will be in continuous fluctuation.
New patented “pressure independent” systemWith our system any previous setting of damper rotation is necessary and the motor can open or dose the
damper without present limits. For adjusting the air flow it is necessary to connect a note-book or central computer
to our MPV1 80 directly on regulator, in technical space or in control room via cable, enter the program, search
the setting page, open the correct cabin unit, insert max and min air flow and push OK.
The setting is complete. This opertaion is possible also without air in the duct. If there is air in the duct, depending of room thermostat
request, the regulator sends the necessary input to the motor for moving the damper to obtain the requested
air flow.
When the room temperature is correct, the motor remains in that position. But in case of change of the static
pressure in the duct also due to different requests in other cabins, the air flow measurement sensor sends the
information to the regulator that the air flow is not correct; now the MPV180 sends a new input to the motor to
change the damper position up to the reaching and the return to the correct air flow; this operation happens
before that the temperature really changes in the cabin without HVAC system fluctuation and expecially with the
constant comfort for the guest.
This is the “PRESSURE INDEPENDENT” system.

This is the “PRESSURE INDEPEN
This regulator is suitable to adjust the max and min air flow and to maintain the requested value also if the air
static pressure changes in the duct (Pressure Independent).
The air flow changes depending on the room temperature request or following special program.
SafetyOur regulator is provided with internal safety devices :
- control of min default air flow for switching ON the heater; in case that the air flow is lower than the default value
(customer indication, 50-100 m3/h), the eletrical power will be shut-off
- air temperature sensor into VAV unit; when the air temperature increases up to the max set temperature (normally
at 55°C), the electrical power will be shut-off. Within the manual reste thermostat the VAV unit (normally
set at 90°C) we have 3 safety levels.

FUNCTIONINGCoolingWhen in the cabin cool is required, the room thermostat sends an input to the MPV180 that operates the motor
wich opens the damper increasing the cool air flow.
The room temperature is now decreasing and when it arrives close to the requested one, the MPV 180 regulator
will start to close a little the damper. When the room temperature reaches the request temperature, the damper
remains at the balance position; this condition remains constant up to a different room temperature request or
if the static pressure in the duct changes. If the static pressure in the duct changes, the air flow changes but
thanks to the air flow sensor, that continuously sends the information to MPV180, the correct air flow necessary
to keep the room requested temperature is manteined.
HeatingWhen in the cabin warm is required, the room thermostat sends an input to the MPV180 that operate the motor
the damper making the cool air flow decrease. When the air flow is close to the minimum, the PWM power
regulator switches-on the electrical heater at the max power and when it arrives close to the requested
temperature the PWM regulator reduces the electric power up to a balance condition with minimum air flow
and correct electric power. As for cooling operation, the balance is kept until a new change or for example in
the static pressure the duct changes.
