1. Death by Certification EURO HAWK UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEM 2. The EURO HAWK, developed and built for the German Ministry of Defense. EURO HAWK is an interoperable, modular and cost-effective replacement to the aging fleet of manned Breguet Atlantic aircraft. The drone is equipped with Cassidian's new SIGINT mission system capable of detecting electronic intelligence (ELINT) and communications intelligence (COMINT) emitters based on active electronically scanned array (AESA) antenna technology. The first signals intelligence sensor test flight of the unmanned aerial vehicle was completed in January 2013 at Munching Air Base, Germany. INTRODUCTION 3. DESIGN FEATURES The drone features a larger wingspan compared to commercial airliners enabling it to fly at altitudes of more than 60,000ft for more than 30 hours. The wingspan is 130.9ft, length is 47.6ft and height is 15.4ft. The drone can also be fitted with European SOSTAR sensor to fulfill the advanced imagery intelligence needs. Northrop Grumman provided a ground station comprising of mission control and launch and recovery elements. Cassidian, on the other hand, provided the SIGINT ground station, which receives and analyses the data from Euro Hawk as part of an integrated system solution. 4. MISSION EQUIPMENT A surveillance and reconnaissance system for detection, identification, processing and evaluation of electronic intelligence (ELINT) and communications intelligence (COMINT). Through the Euro Hawk mission system, EADS is leading SIGINT technology with key characteristics : Frequency detection over a wide frequency range. Very high bandwidth. Man-in-the-loop concept with high degree of automation. Real time situation display. Correlation ELINT and COMINT results. 5. SAR / MTI RADAR (IMINT) A surveillance and reconnaissance system fr all-weather imagery intelligence. The huge payload capacity of the Euro Hawk platform enables the integration of high resolution synthetic aperture radar / moving target indicator (SAR/MTI) sensor for wide area, high altitude IMINT missions : Use of second generation airborne ground surveillance SAR/MTI radar based on state-of-the-art European technology. Active electronically scanned array antenna technology. Dual mode SAR/MTI high resolution. 6. http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/-euro-hawk-unmanned-aerial-system- uas/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_Grumman_RQ-4_Global_Hawk http://www.northropgrumman.com/Capabilities/EuroHawk/Pages/default.aspx http://www.northropgrumman.com/Capabilities/RQ4Block20GlobalHawk/Documents/Eu ro_Hawk_Brochure.pdf http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/euro-hawk-program-cleared-for-takeoff-03051/ REFERENCES 7.
