EUGENE S. POLGAR PAST INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR Eugene S. "Gene" Polgar, of Orefield, Pennsylvania, USA, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 78th International Convention, held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, July 4-7, 1995. Past Director Polgar is the president and chief operating officer of the Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A member of the Whitehall Lions Club since 1965, Past Director Polgar has held many positions within the association, including club president, district governor and cabinet secretary-treasurer. He also served as chairman of his district's Membership, Extension, Leadership and Convention committees. He has served as a board appointee in 1997-98 and currently serves as treasurer on the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum Planning Committee. Past Director Polgar has received numerous awards in recognition of his contributions to the association, including the 100% District Governor Award, nine Extension Awards, seven International President's Certificates of Appreciation, the Leadership Award, five International President's Awards and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor the association bestows upon its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. In addition to his Lion activities, Past Director Polgar has served as chairman of the Constitution and By-Laws Committee and Ad Hoc Committee of the Eye Bank Association of America. He has been cited on several occasions for his eye bank activities and other civic endeavors. He is the recipient of the Heise Award, the highest honor given by the Eye Bank Association of America. Past Director Polgar and his wife, Gladys, also a Melvin Jones Fellow, have three children.
