The Southeast Asia region is a vibrant economy, fast developingand the population is typically adoptive of new technologies. Oneof the interesting new technologies to look at in this region is thearea of green energy technology, vis-à-vis solar photovoltaics (PV).

In Malaysia, Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV) systems as aprogramme was concertedly introduced via the Malaysian BuildingIntegrated Photovoltaics (MBIPV) project in 2006-2010. That hasculminated into what Malaysia is now. Moving forward, aroadmap to implement Net Energy Metering (NEM) and LargeScale Solar (LSS) is setting the industry to become stronger thanever and is expected to play a considerable role in the nationalenergy mix.

In this respect, the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology andWater (KeTTHA) Malaysia, via the Malaysian Green TechnologyCorporation (MGTC) with the help of the Malaysian PhotovoltaicIndustry Association (MPIA) are organising a conference for theInternational Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition andConference Malaysia (IGEM). The focus this year is on solar PVindustry with the theme “BRIDGING KEY PERFORMERS”.

As a way forward, the IGEM Conference 2016 organisers haveinvited experts in the industry to share views on finding the rightrecipe for the right policies, infrastructure, financing system, technologies and also be able to produce talent that propel theindustry to a new class.
