Lowlands European Regional Development Fund:

ERDF P1 (R&D, Commercialisation) – low carbon - proposal to target marine offshore wind and tidal technologies £15m remaining

ERDF P2 (Enterprise) – complimentary to Business Gateway / low carbon £4m remaining

ERDF P3 (Urban Regeneration) – clean sustainable public transport, decontamination and servicing of brownfield sites linked to ERDF eligible activity £20m remaining, + £10m to complement JESSICA

ERDF P4 (Rural Development) – low carbon focus – energy efficiency, renewables in construction, sustainable transport - £21m remaining, likely to be vired may be used to match broadband

Interreg IVA: Scotland/Ireland/Northern Ireland Cross Border Programme

Eligible Areas: Northern Ireland, Border Region of Ireland, Western Scotland (Ayrshire, DG, H&I)

Priority 1: Co-operation for a more prosperous cross-border region:enterprise and tourismcall for strategic project –approx £10m – early 2012 – scope to look at energy

Priority 2: Co-operation for a sustainable cross-border region:cooperation in policy developmentimprove access to services and quality of lifetransport call (£10m) - expected Sept 2011 - Hybrid Ferry shore infrastructurefurther call for collaboration in 2011

Projects must involve 3 jurisdictions, 75% grant in Scotland, 100% in Ireland

Aim: To strengthen the 'innovation capacity' of SMEs in Europe and their contribution to the development of new technology based products and markets, by supporting them to outsource research

Funding: usual FP7 rates – However, total funding cannot exceed 110% of total R&D sub-contracted to RTD performers

Participants: min 3 SMEs from 3 different MS or AC + 2 independent RTD performers from 2 different MS or AC – Other organisations may also participate but they MUST be independent from any other participant.

Beneficiaries: R&D-performing SMEs [A company that invests 10% or more of turnover or full-time equivalent to research activities].

Aim: to provide SMEs with funding and support for market-oriented research and development

Funding: Partly funded by EC and TSB (in the UK) - National rules apply: Contribution: up to 50% funding of eligible costs Maximum amount of grant per UK participant: 300K Euros in any single

project Academics and large companies are welcome to participate in Eurostars

projects, but funding has to be secured from other sources

Purpose: supports businesses with new ‘green’ solutions to find a place on the market for their innovations.

Funding: In 2009 40 projects shared around €30 million of funding, grant up to 50% of eligible costs

Eligibility: targeted on SMEs but large companies and public sector can participate, single applicant possible, but need EU added value
