CROET GREENWAYS FOUNDATION HERITAGE CENTER GREENWAY PROJECT
Goal: To complement the ongoing Meadow Restoration Project and
other natural restoration projects, such as the P-l Pond Restoration, at
the Heritage Center Business Park by establishing wildlife habitat
and/or undisturbed nature areas accessible to individuals by a system
of designated walking trails.
RESTRICTION : All individuals who use the greenway trail system must
stay on the designated trails to protect the habitat and must follow all
posted instructions.
Project Overview
• The trail system development will continually evolve as areas
become availab le and may include closed roads, abandoned or
slightly used gravel roads, mowed paths, or activity maintained
routes.
• Trails may be developed jointly with the ORNL Natural Resource
Management Team and/or TWRA.
• Informational signage, postings, or pamphlets may be provided at
various locations so walkers may be aware of flora or fauna of
special interest.

CROET GREENWAYS FOUNDATION GREENWAY USER'S GUIDELINES

protect the flora and fauna.
2. Users must comply with all posting
3. The trails may be accessed via public roads. Other roads and
areas north of the Greenway system may still be restricted to the
public.
4. There are no restrictions on picture taking or video recording on
the trails.

HERITAGE CENTER, LLC MEADOW RESTORATION PROJECT
Goal : To create native warm season grass (NWSG) meadows as a
primary landscape feature on Heritage Center.
Project Overview
• Non-native grasses and weeds are replaced with mixed NWSGs
• Where appropriate, wildflowers are used as a boarder or accent
feature
• Meadows provide an interesting landscape feature, changing with
the seasons
• The carbon footprint is reduced by eliminating exhaust from fuel
used by tractors to routinely mow typical grass fields
• Meadows are a natural deterrent to Canadian Geese, which are not
native to the area
• NWSGs provide wildlife habitat to native species under stress due to
loss of habitat. In some areas the habitat may be temporary as the
Campus is further developed. NWSGs will continue to be added in
other areas, offsetting and exceeding any loss.
• Some areas are planted in mono-culture switchgrass, which is a
NWSG. The switchgrass may be harvested and used as a biomass
feedstock for ethanol or other biomass fuel products
• Heritage Center, LLC works informally with the ORNL Natural
Resources Management Team and TWRA to enhance the Meadow
Restoration Project and complement other wildlife and meadow
programs on ETIP and the DOE reservation.
