Class Project Room 1: Tepee and Byrd Baylor BookInspired by the Nancy Schimmel song "1492" which music teacher Mary Springer teaches children each year, Room 1 students researched Native American people and their art. The children traced or drew free-hand designs from the Inuit, Cherokee, Aztec, Menomonie, Onondaga, Cree and Carib tribes, then painted them onto a sturdy canvas tepee. Six-foot tall support poles detach into three-foot sections and the canvas rolls up with ease, so the whole project can be stored easily in a handsome wicker basket when not in use. Imagine this tepee in a bedroom, playroom, living room, outside on a porch or under a tree! Your child will love sitting inside this safe haven from the elements and reading a classic book (also included) by children's author Byrd Baylor.Value: $500

9. Class Project Room 3: Two Memory TablesThis year Room 3 made many connections: with each other, with literature, with our families, and more. For our project, we wanted to continue with the "connections" we had made. Over a couple of months and with the help of Mr. Myer, Eton School's woodworking instructor, the children created two memory-box end-tables. They sanded the wood, primed it, and finally painted it with chalkboard paint. Within these memory boxes are poems written by the children of favorite memories of their pasts. The glass tops are removable so that the objects inside can be changed and included is a box of chalk so your family can include memories of your own, on and inside the box!Value: $500

10. Class Project 7th & 8th Grade: Reflections in GlassReflections in Glass is a stunning fused glass platter, which is a creation of the 7th and 8th grade classes. Under guidance of local artist Bill Ayers, students produced 16 original glass tiles, each a reflection of their unique personalities. The tiles were then incorporated into one square platter and the result is a lovely and singular art piece.Value: $500

12. Class Project 5th Grade: Cards of the Gods GameThe mortal players will be pleading to the gods, hoping for help, as they rush to be the leader of this Earthly realm. Cards of the Gods is a deck building game based on the popular game series Dominion, but the 5th graders have put their own twist on the game. The students researched mythological characters and items, gathering stories and drawing pictures. The pictures serve as the artwork of the game and both the pictures and stories are collected into a book, allowing any reader the chance to visit an older time when gods, heroes, and mortals roamed the Earth. This project comes with nearly 500 cards, a rule booklet, a story book, and carrying cases. In addition, Mr. Kashevarof is also bundling a teacher experience with the game. He will spend an afternoon teaching the game, playing the game, watching the game, and/or just about anything else related to the game. Cards of the Gods will be a wonderful and unique addition to any game collection. Enjoy.Value: $500

13. Class Project Mezzo 1: Mezzo 1 ConnectedThe children in Mezzo 1 are proud of their self-portrait drawings. Each child's masterpiece was transferred on canvas surrounded by a beautiful frame. Class Project Mezzo 3: Outback DreamsUsing the dot art technique of the Australian Aborigines and energized by their Dreamtime stories, the children of Mezzo 3 have created two unique canvas-on-canvas masterpieces. Each painting was inspired by a story of the outback that we read – How Kangaroo Got Her Pouch and Why Broglas Dance. After painting the individual canvas' with an earthy tone, each child was commissioned to add their part of the overall picture to their tile. We even borrowed the pointillist style from the AustralianAborigines to embellish our artwork. Viewed in bits they appear jumbled and disjointed, but when put together, their "Connections" become apparent.Value: $500

22. Class Project Mezzo A: Harmony TreeFor our auction project, MezzoA takes on the tree as a symbol of our connection to nature and to one another. This wall art is brightly colored with leaves painted in yellow, green, red and orange. In addition to painting a leaf, copper sheets cut in the shape of a leaf were individually etched by the children. Each leaf is an expression of the child's artistic talent, bringing to life this one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The tree, with its variety of leaves, represents the diversity, harmony and connection between the children in Mezzo A.Value: $500

24. Class Project Room 5: Spirit Animal TotemsThe Room 5 students used cotton string and buttons to outline and decorate a Coastal Pacific Northwest Native American spirit animal. Five totems of eagles, loons, herons, beavers, wolves, hummingbirds, ravens, whales, and more stand tall and proud against a forest of green framed in black. Each child carefully chose a spirit animal with whom he or she shared similar qualities or characteristics. The child's name, the animal's name and two of the shared characteristics are written around each animal. The use of black, red, green, blue and yellow in this framed work of art honor the traditional colors used by our Coastal Native Americans.Value: $500

25. Class Project Mezzo C: Growing Together in Mezzo C With paint, paper, sequins and string, the children created a tree that is sprouting with the hands of the children of Mezzo C.  This colorful canvas illustrates the idea that one place is the home of many!Value: $500

28. Class Project Room 6: Tree of HeartsRoom 6 students each carefully sewed a felt heart and attached a button by hand. Some students helped paint the canvas white and then each child helped paint the tree on the canvas. They cut the ribbons to attach to each heart and helped their teachers plan where the hearts should be placed on the tree. The children helped cut the sun and grass blades out of felt and decided where they would be glued to the canvas. The children really enjoyed using their hands and many types of materials to make this Tree of Hearts.Value: $500

31. Class Project 6th Grade: Connections Fir ConeThe 6th grade project is a perspective of the Eton Fir Cone. Each student designed a piece of the Eton Fir Cone logo using black line, color pencil, and techniques learned in art class. This was then decoupaged onto a piece of paper using tissue paper in a layered effect. The whole design has been assembled and decoupaged again onto a 24 x 20 canvas that has been covered with a local map. The 6th grade students really enjoyed creating this truly unique work of art that shows the connections between the students, the school, the community and the larger community of the Puget Soundregion.Value: $500

Teachers Experiences

81. When in Rome... Join a Roman Soldier Workshop!You have all seen movies of Roman Soldiers marching with bright, emblazoned shields. Did you ever wonder what it would be like to be a Roman Soldier and carry such a shield? Did you ever think you might have a Roman shield, called a Scutum in Latin, for your very own? If you have answered 'yes' to any of these questions, then this is the teacher experience for you! A Scutum workshop is being offered for 10 lucky fifth through eighth graders and/or their parents on a Saturday (date to be decided upon). Participants will cut with power tools and make steel form to their will as they assemble a four-foot tall Roman scutum to clutter up their rooms. The workshop will be guided by Mr. William Gruner, a living history re-enactor specializing in the Roman Empire. Mr. G's Roman name is Vulcanus Flaminius Sirco and he is a fabrica prefect (someone who builds Roman equipment), and soldier in Legio VI, Cohors. At noon, we will have a prandium, a Roman mid-day meal. A display of Roman military equipment will also be available for study.Restrictions: Limited to 10. Grades 5th - 8th grade.Value: $100/pax

82. Guitar Lessons with Ms. BlinkRoom 4 teacher, Ms. Blink will provide one student with 4, forty-minute private guitarlessons. 86. An Afternoon with Ms. Gaskins at the Seattle Art MuseumAn exciting afternoon where 6 kids will tour the Seattle Art Museum with Ms. Gaskins. The tour will be led by a docent and will take your students through the Northwest Coast Galleries, European gallery and more. There will be many experiences to view and discuss families from around the world.
