If not un- der control from the Media Converter Center, the speed, the duplex mode and the MDI/MDIX on copper ports are automatically set-up. SIMPLE CONVERSION OR DISTRIBUTION OF OPTICAL ETHERNET The FOCI is a powerful Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet media converter used to carry an Ethernet link over fiber, and to manage or status far-end devices. This device can be used as the CPE of the CXR Media Converter Center AMS-MEDIA16-SNMP with the FOCIR slide-in card. This solution is particularly great in large telecom infra- structures to manage all links, including the distant UTP interfaces connected to the customer equipment. All functions, Ethernet statistics, rate, protection and loop testing are SNMP controlled from the Media Converter Center. The management between cards and distant modules are performed in-band over the fiber link using industry standard protocols. The FOCI is powerful media converter, interconnecting equipment from any vendor according to the industry standard IEEE G.802.3/.3u/3ab/3z standard. The link pass through feature provides for full media transparency. The AMS-MEDIA16 Media Converter Center with FOCIR cards and the distant FOCI devices is a very efficient solution for large infrastructure optical LAN deployments, with the capabil- ity to adapt and to monitor each link, (including 1+1 protection and rate limitation).
