SPAMMING

Electronic spamming is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited

bulk messages (spam), especially advertising,

indiscriminately.

While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses

in other media: Mobile Phone, Social Networking Spam, Online

Game Messaging, Spam targeting video sharing sites and etc.

IN DIFFERENT MEDIA

EMAIL SPAM•Email spam, also known as junk email or unsolicited bulk email (UBE), is a subset of electronic spam involving nearly identical messages sent to numerous recipients by email.

Example:

•If you receive harassing or offensive mail that is directly addressed to you.

MOBILE PHONE

•Mobile Phone spam is directed t the text messaging service of a mobile phone.

•Generally SMS spam consists of a simple message telling you to call a phone number. If you return the call, you will be dialing a premium-rate number, and the attacker will try to keep you on the line as long as possible in order to get the most money from you.

Example:

SOCIAL NETWORKING SPAM

•Facebook and Twitter are not immune to messages containing spam links. Most insidiously, spammers hack into accounts and send false links under the guise of a user's trusted contacts such as friends and family.

•You receive a fake social networking message or distress email supposedly from a friend or family member who is travelling.  The message requests money to be sent urgently (via wire transfer) to help the friend/family member through some hardship they have supposedly experienced whilst on holiday.

Example:

ONLINE GAME MESSAGING•Many online games allow players to

contact each other via player-to-player messaging, chat rooms, or public discussion areas. What qualifies as spam varies from game to game, but usually this term applies to all forms of message flooding, violating the terms of service contract for the website.

•Chat spamming is the repetition of a word or line typed out by a player using a game's chat system.

Example:

SPAM TARGETING VIDEO SHARING SITES•Video sharing sites, such as

YouTube, are now being frequently targeted by spammers. The most common technique involves people (or spam bots) posting links to sites, most likely pornographic or dealing with online dating.
