Therefore, at the risk of not sounding original, I am writing to you once again about the importance of attendance by our membership at the May 4, 2012 Barrister’s Ball at Scotland Run Golf Club in Williamstown. As you know by now, this event is our big fundraiser of the year, and it needs to be successful, so that the Cumberland County Bar Foundation has the funds to do the important things central to its mission. One of those things central to its mission is to award scholarships to deserving students who aspire to careers in the legal profession, either as lawyers or paralegals. Members of the Fundraising Committee have been working hard to contact all of you about attendance. I am sure our Vice President of Fundraising, Joseph Chiarello, would not mind if I echoed what he said in a recent e-mail message: Lawyers indeed love deadlines. Actually, I think most of us dread deadlines if it involves writing or filing something. What I’m talking about now is a good kind of d eadline about an invitation to a fabulous affair. And your invitations must be returned to our Executive Director, Lou Ann Ferrari-Brooks, by April 13, 2012. I would urge you to send in your payment of $150.00 per person so that this event can be a success. In the past, the Bar Association has held a golf tournament as its major fundraiser. Of course, not everyone plays golf. We have also held an art auction. Not everyone buys artwork. Despite the success of those past endeavors, we opted to try something different this year. The idea behind the Barrister’s Ball was that everyone likes to go out and have a good time. For that reason, you should come out and join your friends and colleagues for a great night out. Another good reason is that it’s for a good cause. I hope to see you there.
