The Fuji Apple was named af-

ter it’s location in where it was first

originated. It was brought to market

in the year 1962 and was first devel-

oped in Fujisaki, Aomori, Japan, dur-

ing the late 1930’s. The Tohoku re-

search Station created the Fuji Apple

as a cross in

between the

red Deli-

cious and an

old Virginia

Ralls Genet apple. Therefore, these

two apples are both a variety of 

 American apples. Meaning that the

flavorful Fuji Apple was introduced

from the Japanese to the Americans

during the 1980’s.

History of the Fuji Apple
