Today is Fullmoon Day of Tabaung, thetwelfth and last month of the Myanmarcalendar. Tabaung falls between the cold seasonand the hot season.

Religiously, Fullmoon Day of Tabaung iscelebrated as a day on which the Buddha set outto return home. At the time, the Buddha wasdelivering a sermon to lay people from Inga andMagadha at Veluwun Monastery of Rajagjo.King Suddhodhana, the Buddha’s father, senthis ten ministers to Rajagjo to invite the Buddha.Kaludayi Minister led the journey and becamean Ahrat after hearing the Buddha’s sermons.Then, Ahrat Kaludayi supplicated to the Buddhafor an itinerary to Kapilawut, reciting 64 versesthat portrayed the pleasant month of Tabaungand convincing the Buddha that it was time toreturn to his birth place, the Kapilawut Court,as a token of repaying parental gratitude. Itwas Fullmoon Day of Tabaung in 103 RE.

On the First Waning of Tabaung, theBuddha made a 60-day journey to Kapilawut.

Today, the people perform meritoriousdeeds such as holding Buddha Pujaniya atpagodas, reciting Patthana, offering alms tomembers of the Sangha, and offering provisionsat auspicious time in Tabaung.

On the auspicious occasion of the FullmoonDay of Tabaung, Buddhist people are exhortedto constantly do meritorious deeds,contemplating the Supreme Attributes of theBuddha.

MEXICO CITY, 18 March—Mexican authoritiessuspended the licenses of two pilots, two co-pilotsand a flight attendant on flights operated by Mexicancarrier Aeromexico for being under the influenceof alcohol, the Communications and TransportationDepartment said in a statement Thursday.

The department said three crew members on anAeromexico flight that arrived Wednesday at theMexico City Airport from the Pacific coast resort ofPuerto Vallarta had been found to have consumedalcohol.

And the department said that an Aeromexicoflight from San Jose, Costa Rica to Mexico City wascanceled on Saturday after Costa Rican authoritiesdetermined the pilot and co-pilot had been drinking.

MIAMI, 18 March—Officials at Zoo Miami saya camel was euthanized after being injured in anincident involving an escaped Indian Guar, a typeof wild cattle. Landslide closes Californiahighway

SAN FRANCISCO, 18 March — A section ofCalifornia’s historic Highway 1 washed away afterseveral days of heavy rain and officials say theyexpect a long-term closure for repairs.

The California Highway Patrol said a 40-footstretch of saturated roadway on the coastal highwaytumbled down a hillside on Wednesday evening inMonterey Country, the San Francisco Chroniclereported.

After the landslide, near an area called HurricanePoint, the California Department of Transportationclosed several miles of the road south of GarrapataState Park and posted signs warning motorists of thewashout.

The Monterey Times Herald reported the CHPsaid the closure could last “potentially several days ifnot longer.” No injuries were reported.—Internet
