Are you doing your part in helping to keep our children safe?
Children are great imitators. So give them something great to imitate! Thank you to our parents and
carers who have embraced our new process in collecting students who usually wait at the front of the
school from the gym foyer. The process is as follows for children who are collected by parents at the
front of the school.
3:15pm. Children make their way to gym foyer to be collected by parents and carers. Students are
supervised by staff.
3:30pm. Students are led by a staff member to the office foyer. Staff meetings begin at 3:30pm, so
students cannot wait in the classroom.
3:45pm If the school has not received notification from parents or carers children still waiting will be
escorted to After Care. A charge will be incurred.
This is not a punitive process but one that has been established with the care and safety of students at
its heart. Anyone, who has collected their child from the front of the school knows how chaotic it can
be. In one week, I witnessed three near misses. These ranged from cars double parked and parents
beckoning their child to navigate crossing between parked cars in order to jump in the illegally parked
car. Children who are getting in or out of cars on the wrong side of the car, that is, the road side and the
perpetual horns blaring which is distracting to students and also against the law.
We have had mostly positive feedback from parents and I make no apologies for the few grumbles from
parents who are not happy about having to get out of their car to collect their child. What price do we
put on keeping our children safe? I thank you all for your ongoing cooperation in upholding the rigour of
this process, in the name of safety. I know you will agree the front of the school is now quiet and orderly
at the end of the school day.

The other area of safety concern is one in which some parents continually cross the road opposite their
car with their child instead of using the crossing. Children as stated are great imitators. The excuse of,
”I’m too busy or I haven’t got time to walk with my child to the crossing”, is an accident waiting to
happen. Children become confused and unsure of what is the right thing to do, when the school and
indeed the law state one set of rules which is conflicting to what mum and dad are saying. It is not the
role of the school to police parents but it is our duty of care to keep our children safe. Thank you for
your cooperation in this matter. We all want the very best for our children. Our future.
Parent forums
On a happier note, a huge thank you to those parents who were able to attend the parent forums on
how to help your child with literacy and numeracy at home, values education and how to keep our
children safe online.
Education Week
Thank you to all staff for the extra activities during Education Week, including The Life Education Van
for the Junior School, lunchtime activities and the Book Fair. The Book Fair has been a great success
with families browsing and choosing from wish the list our children spent time creating after having a
sneak preview of the multitude of books available to buy. Our students from the school’s photographic
club were on hand to take happy snaps of satisfied buyers with Geronimo the Book Fair Mascot.
All proceeds from the Book Fair will go towards buying new books for the library. Parents will be
notified of the amount collected at the end of the Book Fair which closes next Monday.

KidsMatter Well our school is starting to look much brighter now thanks to our KidsMatter Working Bee from
earlier in the term. A huge thank you to the staff and parent helpers who attended the afternoon and
helped to build garden beds, paint and create some displays and hang some artwork. If you haven’t had
a chance to see some of the work yet, please take 5 minutes to have a look at the “Every Place has a
Face” displays hung between the prep building, the admin building and our gym. They look fantastic.
We are hoping to have some more of our wonderful displays put up in the coming weeks, so keep your
eyes peeled.
Thanks

We have a confirmed case of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease.
Hand, foot & mouth disease is spread from an infected person by close contact with the fluid in the blisters, by coughing and sneezing, by contact through touching infect-ed areas on the face and by contact with contaminated objects or surfaces.
Signs and symptoms include:
Fever
Tiredness
Loss of appetite
Blisters in the mouth and on the hands and feet (just below the nail bed)
A sore mouth for a few days before the ulcers or blisters appear.
Affected young children may refuse to eat or drink.
To ensure the disease doesn’t spread, washing hands:
After going to the toilet
Before and after handling food
After sneezing, coughing, blowing nose
After handling rubbish will help.

I would like to thank parent helpers Jodie Fox (Riley—4Age) and Tenille Bruno (Alicia—Prep Julie/Elissa) for all their help with the Mother's Day bake stall. A wonderful and successful stall with lots of excited children and big smiles. We hope all the mothers enjoyed there little gift.
A big thank you to the grade six helpers—Shayma, Aarya and Matt K from 6 Nat/Seb and Ryan from 6 Demi.
Any helpers for the Father's Day stall please come see me at the canteen or Sonia at the Office. Reminder... There is a new 2016 price list that is available from office or canteen and prices have had a slight increase so please make sure that the current list is being used as we wouldn't want the children missing out on any items due to incorrect money being supplied.
All lunch offers are to be clearly marked with student name, room number and any dietary requirements ( ie, vegetarian or halal)
Orders are to be placed in lunch tub, this allows us to prepare the lunch orders on time.
Thanks Leah

Volunteer Host Families Needed!
World Education Program (WEP) is a not-for-profit student
exchange organisation approved by the regulatory authorities
in VIC. We are urgently looking for volunteer host families
for exchange students arriving in July 2016 for a term,
semester or year.
Imagine knowing someone who:
runs around in shorts and t-shirt in the middle of an Australian winter because the
temperature is equivalent to summertime in the student's home country,
takes a photo of a meal you have prepared to send overseas because it looks so different,
is amazed that we can travel for hours and still be in the same state of one country.
How does it work?
You can choose a student who you think will fit best into your family.
WEP host families are responsible for providing the exchange student with a room (can be
shared with sibling of same sex and similar age), meals and a welcoming family environment. In
return, you will gain a new family member and friend for life. All WEP students come with their
own spending money and insurance.
Arriving Soon:
Alice (Italy) “I love cooking! I especially love to bake bread, cakes and biscuits! I am part of
a youth group where I help organise weekly activities for 130 children! When I'm older I'd
like to study medicine. I am really excited to meet my host family!”
Louis (France) “I’m a very active and open minded person who lives to move and see the
world! Although I am Belgian I actually live in France. I enjoy skiing, surfing, swimming but
especially playing golf.” + many more
Find out more!
Simply jump online or contact WEP today
to receive a free information pack including student profiles.
