MORE STUDENT SUCCESS STORIES
How’s this for dedication and commitment to learning? After 18 months, Student AIDA MADRIGAL, who started as a beginner to learn English, has now advanced to Book Level 2. After President Obama’s talk to the nation, she wrote this to her tutor, Carolyn Kellogg:
“THE STATE OF ME Aida Madrigal
Last year I found a good job. The job is very nice, fun and challenging. I like to share their stories and learn about people’s per-sonal stories. My daughter talked about moving closer to me because she plans to get married and have a baby. I’m very happy for her. My son found a good job. He is excited because his dreams came true.

"There is no such thing as a small (financial) cont ribution. Every contribution is made according to what is appropriate to an individual's circumstance and all contributions at every level are valued. "It's about how much you value ESL In-Home Program’ s work and also knowing the impact your contributio n helps make possible. Then you stretch to do the most you can. Look at our statistics be low. Michael surprised me with a call from Seoul, South
Korea (NV 7:30pm=Korea 12:30 pm next day). Af-
ter his Vista service was completed, he is still help-
ing ESL when a problem arises while he was with
us. You remember he was short with words? Well,
we actually had a conversation! He is doing fine
these past 1-1/2 yrs in Korea. Now studying the lan-
guage while teaching private students. He’s looking
for a job that allows him to practice the language by
writing translations for various programs. He is vol-
unteering with “Save the Children” with transla-
tions. He is 30 miles from North Korea (much too
close as far as I’m concerned). ESL is sending him a
care package: He’s missing crunchy peanut butter
and chocolate chips (not Hersheys)
Remember Carson City’s VISTA Michael Wakeley?
Douglas County Tutor Coordinator Carol Lark (top) and Carson Tutor Catherine Neeley (bottom) successfully recruited more tutors at the February

To you who are “thinking” of tutoring, but are hesitant, read the words of Eleanor Roosevelt………..
“You gain STRENGTH, COURAGE, and
CONFIDENCE by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face—
You must do the thing which you think
you can NOT do.” Eleanor Roosevelt
