Set the water softener

The dishwasher is equipped with a watersoftener designed to remove mineralsand salts from the water supply, whichwould have a detrimental or adverse ef-fect on the operation of the appliance. The higher the content of these mineralsand salts, the harder your water is. Waterhardness is measured in equivalentscales, German degrees (°dH), Frenchdegrees (°TH) and mmol/l (millimol perlitre - international unit for the hardnessof water).

The softener should be adjusted accord-ing to the hardness of the water in yourarea. Your local Water Authority can ad-vise you on the hardness of the water inyour area.

The water softener must be set inboth ways: manually andelectronically.

Loading cutlery and dishes

Sponges, household cloths and any ob-ject that can absorb water may not bewashed in the dishwasher.

• Before loading the dishes, you should:

– Remove all left over food and deb-ris.

– Soften remnants of burnt food inpans

• When loading the dishes and cutlery, please note:

– Dishes and cutlery must not impedethe rotation of the spray arms.

– Load hollow items such as cups, glasses, pans, etc. with the openingdownwards so that water cannotcollect in the container or a deepbase.

– Dishes and items of cutlery mustnot lie inside one another, or covereach other.

– To avoid damage to glasses, theymust not touch.

– Lay small objects in the cutlery bas-ket.

• Plastic items and pans with non stickcoatings have a tendency to retainwater drops; these items will not dryas well as porcelain and steel items.

• Light items (plastic bowls etc.) mustbe loaded in the upper basket and ar-ranged so they do not move.

For washing in the dishwasher the following cutlery and dishes

are not suitable: are of limited suitability:

• Cutlery with wooden, horn, china ormother-of-pearls handles.

• Plastic items that are not heat resist-ant.

• Older cutlery with glued parts that arenot temperature resistant.

• Bonded cutlery items or dishes.

• Pewter or copper items.

• Lead crystal glass.

• Steel items prone to rusting.

• Wooden platters.

• Items made from synthetics fibres.

• Only wash stoneware in thedishwasher if it is specially marked asbeing dishwasher-safe by themanufacturer.

• Glazed patterns may fade if machinewashed frequently.

• Silver and aluminium parts have atendency to discolour during wash-ing: Residues, e.g. egg white, eggyolk and mustard often cause disco-louring and staining on silver. There-fore always clean left-overs from silverimmediately, if it is not to be washedstraight after use.

The lower basket

The lower basket is designed to takesaucepan, lids, plates, salad bowls, cut-lery ect.Service dishes and large lids should bearranged around the edge of the basket, ensuring that the spray arms can turnfreely.

The cutlery basket

Long bladed knives stored in an up-right position are a potential hazard.Long and/or sharp items of cutlerysuch as carving knives must bepositioned horizontally in the upperbasket. Take care when loading or

unloading sharp items such as kni-ves.

Forks and spoons should be placed inthe removable cutlery basket with thehandles facing downwards and the kni-ves with their handles facing upwards.

If the handles protrude from the bottomof the basket, obstructing the lowerspray arm, load the cutlery with the han-dles facing upwards. Mix spoons withother cutlery to prevent them from stick-ing together. For best results we recommend you touse the cutlery grid. If the size and di-mensions of the cutlery do not allow theuse of the grid, they can be easily re-moved.

16 electrolux loading cutlery and dishes

Page 17: esf 63020x

The upper basket

The upper basket is designed for plates(dessert plates, saucers, dinner plates ofup to 24 cm in diameter), salad bowls, cups and glassesArrange items on and underneath thecup racks so that water can reach allsurfaces.

Glasses with long stems can be placedupside down in the cup racks. For taller items, the cup racks can befolded upwards.

Before closing the door, ensuredthat the spray arms can rotatefreely.

Adjusting the height of the upperbasket

If washing very large plates you can loadthem in the lower basket after movingthe upper basket to the higher position.

Maximum height of the dishes in:

Installation

Any electrical and/or plumbing workrequired to install this applianceshould be carried out by a qualifiedelectrician and/or plumber or com-petent person.

Remove all packaging before position-ing the machine. If possible, position the machine next toa water tap and a drain.

Fitting under a counter (kitchenworktop or sink)

By removing the machine’s worktop, you can install it under a close fitting sinkunit or a pre-existing top, providing thedimensions of the recess correspond tothose shown in the picture.

Proceed as follows:

Page 32: esf 63020x

• Remove the machine’s worktop byunscrewing the two rear retainingscrews, pull the worktop from theback of the machine and slide out thefront slots, lifting the worktop.

• Insert the machine after adjusting thelevelling with the adjustable feet.

When inserting the machine, ensure thatthe water inlet and drain hoses are notkinked or squashed.During all operations that involveaccessibility to internal components thedishwasher has to be unplugged.Be sure that once the appliance hasbeen installed, it is easily accessible forthe service engineer in the event that arepair is required. If the dishwasher is later used as a free-standing appliance, the original worktopmust be re-mounted.The plinth on free-standing appliances isnot adjustable.

Levelling

Good levelling is essential for correctclosure and sealing of the door. Whenthe appliance is correctly levelled, thedoor will not catch on either side of thecabinet. If the door does not closecorrectly, loosen or tighten the adjusta-ble feet until the machine is perfectlylevel.

Water supply connections

This dishwasher may be fed with eitherhot (max. 60°) or cold water. Neverthe-less we advise you a cold water supply.A hot water supply is not always efficientwith very soiled crockery as it shortensthe washing programmes a lot.For making the connection itself, thecoupling nut fitted to the machine’s sup-ply hose is designed to screw onto a3/4" gas thread spout or to a purposemade quick-coupling tap such as thePress-block.The water pressure must be within thelimits given in the "Technical specifica-tions". Your local Water Authority will ad-vise you on the average mains pressurein your area. The water inlet hose must not be kinked, crushed, or entangled when it is beingconnected. The dishwasher features fill and drainhoses which can be turned either to theleft or the right to suit the installation bymeans of the locknut. The locknut must be correctly fittedto avoid water leaks.(Attention! NOT all models of dishwash-ers have fill and drain hoses providedwith locknut. In this case, this kind offacility is not possible). If the machine isconnected to new pipes or pipes whichhave not been used for a long time, youshould run the water for a few minutesbefore connecting the inlet hose.DO NOT use connection hoseswhich have previously been used foran old appliance.

This appliance has been fitted withsafety features which will preventthe water used in the appliance fromreturning back into the drinking wa-ter system. This appliance complieswith the applicable plumbing regu-lations.

Water outlet hose connection

The end of the drain hose can be con-nected in the following ways:

1. To the sink outlet spigot, securing itto the underside of the work surface. This will prevent waste water fromthe sink running into the machine.

2. To a stand pipe provided with vent-hole, minimum internal diameter 4cm.

The waste connection must be at aheight of between 30 cm (minimum) and100 cm (maximum) from the bottom ofthe dishwasher. The drain hose can face either to theright or left of the dishwasher.Ensure the hose is not bent or squashedas this could prevent or slow down thedischarge of water. The sink plug must not be in place whenthe machine is draining as this couldcause the water to syphon back into themachine. If you use a drain hose extension it mustbe no longer than 2 metres and its inter-nal diameter must be no smaller than thediameter of the hose provided.

Likewise the internal diameter of thecouplings used for connections to thewaste outlet must be no smaller than thediameter of the hose provided. When connecting the drain hose to anunder sink trap spigot, the entire plas-tic membrane (A) must be removed.Failure to remove all the membrane willresult in food particles building up overtime eventually blocking the dishwasherdrain hose spigot.

Our appliances are supplied with asecurity device to protect againstthe return of dirty water back intothe machine. If the spigot of yoursink has a "no return valve" incor-porated this can prevent the correctdraining of your dishwasher. Wetherefore advise you to remove it.
