Secon Chair Update
My dear Quality Professionals,
Our Secon Leadership had a busy October which ended with a great Quality Day Conference. This is one of the biggest investments that our Secon makes to bring value to you, our members. Once again, this would never be possiblewithout the commitment and dedicaon from our incredible volunteers.
For those of you that were able to join us, thank you for being part of this mile-stone event for our secon. I am confident that you came home inspired and prepared to raise the bar in your professional and personal lives!
If you were unable to join us, let me share with you one of my own personalanecdotes that summarizes the inspiraon that fuels these events…
There was a profound moment that I looked around me and Chris Alexander had the full aenon of the room full of hungry minds at the discovery of the human vulnerability (stress) converted into pow-erful spiritual energy. As I was observing this, one of the ladies in the room whispered to herself "thiswas so worth it!"
At the beginning of the year, our Leadership Commiee had discussed the possibility of disconnuing Quality Day due to the expense to our Secon. However, with a lot of work from Ned Schneider and Dave Nagy, we saw the opportunity realized another Quality Day. Dave Nagy accepted the challenge tobe the Quality Day Chair, and he did not disappoint. The event brought enriching learning opportuni-es to over 130 aendees.
Thank you, Dave Nagy and all the Quality Day volunteers! You did an extraordinary job!!
I want to extend my special gratude to Deysi Cobena de Cortez for their great idea of taking profes-sional pictures for our members. This was a special touch to this event and hopefully something thatwe can do again. Looking professional in that LinkedIn account, maybe the difference maker! Thanks to Deysi, some of our members have these professional looking pictures taken.
Lastly, I want to extend my gratude to those of you that stepped up and helped me during the 2 years as a Vice Chair, and my 2 years as the Chair of this secon. I truly could not have been able to lead our secon without the dedicaon and efforts from all our volunteers. There is no doubt in my mind that the success of a leader is in the hands of those that help him succeed. These four years have shaped upmy understanding of leadership and teamwork. I take with me some valuable lessons, and even thoughsome of my goals as Chair came up short, those that were achieved and even the ones that failed willprovide the ASQ 0701 Secon something to build on!
My dear Quality Professionals…Thank you!
With this, I would like to welcome Vinay Goyal to his first year as the Chair. I am confident that this secon will be geng much beer with what Vinay brings with him. The most important is his passion for the members of this associaon dedicated for the growth of this one word that leads the world to new froners…QUALITY!
Sincerely,
Dieter Eckstein, BSBM, ASQ CMQ/OE, CQASecon Chair, ASQ Orange Empire 0701

Create Zones of Inspiraon – Pride in Accomplishment
Leadership is about working together and empoweringothers. It is about leading by example and creang power underneath you. When you create power from below, your employees push you higher. Leadership is a processof teaching and serving. Great leaders understand toserve others is a spiritual principle that creates zones ofinspiraon and willing parcipaon, that manifests into pride in a job well done!
Straight-line with Employees
Successful leadership rests on the premise that effecve communicaon is essenal. Effecve communicaon is to
the point, straighorward, and diplomac and helps you and your employees make their points quickly.
Listen to your employees! Sit down and take me with them. Give them undivided aenon when they want to speak to you. Never say, “Yes, I’m listening to you,” when you’re not.
Fear is a Poor Movator
At mes, working with people can be exasperang. It is a common reacon for supervisors to lose their paence and start threatening negave consequences. The fact remains, threats are a poor and inefficient way of dealing with people. Threats always create resentment and resistance. Even whenpeople go along with a threat, they do so out of fear and notdesire. Desire movaon is long-lasng and powerful. Fear movaon is temporary and perpetuates mistrust on both sides.
Be Prepared to Change
Change is a constant in today’s business world. Alvin Toffler
said, “Unless we can adapt and adjust to change, we’re always
going to be in a state of future shock.” We have to listen to
other peoples’ ideas, their points of view, and when the old
ways are no longer effecve, we need to change the way we
do things.

CLINIC # 1
How GD&T Saves Money
Presented by: Dr. Joe DeSimone
In this presentaon, Joe will discuss how the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing saves money.
Engineering drawings are eventually about one thing – Money! The drawing is the basis for contracts, patents and designs wherepeople’s lives depend upon safety and funconality.
A drawing should be the ulmate communicaon tool between the designer, manufacturer, and inspector. When the drawing doesnot capture the true funconality of the part, we end up with any-thing other than what was intended! We call these “hamburgerdrawings” because you can have it your way!
Joe will explore the use of GD&T to capture funconality and en-hance communicaon to all of those involved. The limitaons of “old style” dimensioning will be shown, along with the steps toimplement GD&T on your product without driving UP the cost.
It’s not just the cost of making the part without GD&T. This alsoinvolves costs of gauging, inspecon cost, soware costs, MRB costs, supplier costs to make your part, and on and on….
Joe’s presentaon is sure to spark interests in saving $$$ using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

The Net Promoter Score (NPS)
Presented by: Frank G Adler, PhD
The purpose of this clinic is to provide an introducon to The NetPromoter Score (NPS) and share some of the best pracces related to this Customer loyalty (and sasfacon) metrics.
Customer loyalty is the willingness of someone – a customer, anemployee, a friend – to make an investment or personal sacrifice in order to strengthen a relaonship.
It is proven that in most industries, the percentage of Customerswho are enthusiasc enough to refer a friend or colleague – perhapsthe strongest sign of Customer loyalty – correlates directly withdifferences in growth rate among competors.
By aending this clinic presentaon, you will:
• Hear more about what the Net Promoter Score (NPS)is and why so many organizaons are using this metrics to determine Customer Loyalty and Sasfacon,
• Learn how to determine the Margin of Error and how tocompare different NPS results, and

Root Cause Investigation forCAPA
Seminar
Presented by: Bob Mehta – ASQ Fellow
Seminar Date & Hours:
2/10/2018, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
Registration begins at 8:30am and presentationruns from 9:00am – 4:30pm (1/2 hr. for lunch).
For the past several years, CAPA has been one of thetop 5 deficiencies found during FDA, ISO 9001, ISO13485 audits of Pharma, Biologics, and Medical Devicemanufacturers and their suppliers. One of the major rootcauses is that employees are not given fundamentaltraining on Root Cause Investigation (RCI). The prima-ry objective of this seminar is to develop an understand-ing of the principles and techniques involved in thepractice of RCI. Participants will learn through experi-ential activities such as group discussion and case stud-ies.
The seminar will provide attendees with effective meth-ods and tools that can be used to perform root causeinvestigation for CAPA. It will cover regulatory require-ments, regulatory trends, review of RCA related defi-ciencies found during the regulatory inspections. Youwill be given case studies for review and to completeroot cause investigation with your team of 3-4 partici-pants.
Our speaker: Bob Mehta – ASQ Fellow
