Creating ESCO mappings

How we envision creating ESCO mappings



• Public Employment Services capture labour market data using

– the local data-model used by the PES

– the local vocabularies defined in the NOCs

• ESCO is designed to support data translation to interface with local

systems by providing a multi-lingual classification of Occupations,

and Knowledge, Skill and Competences

• To achieve semantic interoperability between different PESs across

Europe, mapping tables from the NOC to ESCO are required

• Define a straightforward process to create a mapping

• To prototype tooling to support the mapping process

• To create draft mappings for NL, FR, CZ, and ES

(Hospitality and Tourism)

Introducing the mappings



• Translated the data for Hospitality & Tourism

• Implemented a prototype “Mapping Tool”

– The tool proposes mappings

– The current version is based on SOLR

• Imported

– NOCs (converted into the required input format, i.e. RDF)

– ESCO including the translations

• Key data elements used:

– ISCO codes

– Preferred Term, Non-Preferred Terms (synonyms)

• Output: Proposed Mappings (HTML page)

Lessons Learned



• Discussion needed on how best to map Rome’s Scheme to ESCO.

Key is to understand on which level FR wants to exchange

information

• Mapping skills/competences needs additional work. Filtering using

occupations will likely improve the quality of the mappings. Need to

be tested

• Recall scores for the current implementation to be investigated

• …
