Escape from rainy season!
Summer Hokkaido Highlights
Hokkaido is Japan’s largest prefecture and it is
simply impossible to see it all in a short stay, but if
you have 4 days, it may be sufficient to cover the
highlights of ‘Summer in Hokkaido’, and 6 days
would allow you to stretch and explore another
islands of Rebun and Rishiri, the undiscovered part
of Hokkaido with breathtaking views covered by
more than 300 species of alpine flowers. Here is an
itinerary hint for 4D3N. It is easier for you to fly
directly into Asahikawa airport, locating just in
centre part of Hokkaido, in order to access to where
we want to lead you for your ‘Summer in Hokkaido’.
There are only a few direct flights into Asahikawa
airport from abroad, but from major airports in
Japan offers direct f l ights to Asahikawa.
As most places of Japan get visited by rainy season before the full-blown summer comes, did you know there
is only one place that does not get affected by the rainy season? It is Hokkaido, the northernmost island of
Japan. Hokkaido must ring a bell if you are a winter sports lover for its powder snow, but the place is not only
for winters. The summer in Hokkaido offers beautiful nature and outdoor sports with the mildest climate,
which is not as hot and humid like other places of Japan.

If you arrive in the morning, you will be able to
spend your afternoon at Asahiyama Zoo, known for
its unique way of displaying the animals which
allows visitors to observe the animals very closely
and just like they are in their natural habitat. You will
see penguins are actually birds, through water glass
tunnel display, observing them flying through in the
water. More of unique displays and animals to see
and time flies just like you are back in childhood. If
you visit here in the winter, you can see the penguins
marching, which was the first attempt in Japanese
zoos. Have an hour drive to Furano, check in to the
h o t e l a n d h a v e a r e l a x e d e v e n i n g .
Day 2 is going to be the most important highlight of
Hokkaido for summer, visiting Biei and Furano
towns. Both towns are famous for their flower fields,
scenic roads and beautiful landscapes. There are
unique name of roads and places such as ‘Patchwork
Road’ , ‘Shikisai Hill ‘and ‘Panorama Road’ in Biei
town that shows beautiful green and colourful
landscapes. Driving and exploring around by car or
bicycle is ideal. In Furano, there are several dairy
farms, winery and Marché that offer freshly made
cheese, ice creams, local vegetables and grape juice
etc, which add extra touch of fun on your day.

The trip continues to Sapporo, the capital city of
Hokkaido, where you will have next 2 nights.
Day 3. The summer in Hokkaido is very short, so
locals try to take all the advantages of the summer
season by enjoying the ‘only summer can offer
activities’. Start from Sapporo Central Market, try
super fresh seasonal sea urchins and squids. If you
are interested in fruit picking at local farm, the
summer offers strawberries and cherries. Because
Sapporo was chosen as the island’s administrative
center and enlarged according to the advice of
foreign specialists in Meiji period, the city is build
based on a North American style rectangular street
system as you can see from Odori Park that stretches
about a kilometer along the street separating the city
into north and south. Beer festival held at this park
during summer season cannot be missed .
Not only the street system, you will find many of
western styled buildings in the city such as The Clock
Tower and Red Brick Office. The Moiwayama Park
is also good choice to spend your afternoon in the
cheerful summer. The park was designed by
renowned Japanese American sculptor Isamu
Noguchi. The park is filled with unique features such
as pyramid glass building and sea fountain set in the
massive green space. Exploring local cuisine for
d inner would be idea l in Susukino a rea .
