    POST VLSI Component Engineer in the Components Technology Section of

    the Materials and Components Technology Division, Product Assurance

    and Safety Department, Directorate of Technical and QualityManagement.

    This post is classified in the A2/A4 grade band of the Coordinated

    Organisations salary scale.

    LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk (The Netherlands).

    DUTIES The Materials and Components Technology Division provides direct

    support to all ESA programmes for the definition, implementation and

    control of EEE components. The postholder shall report to the Head of

    Components Technology Section. The Section provides coherent support

    in all phases of components development from process definition up toqualification and flight. More information on the activities of the section

    can be found on the ESA portal: Space Engineering.

    This post concerns VLSI components (in particular ASIC and FPGA).

    Major ESA industrial collaborators in this domain today are ATMEL

    and ST Microelectronics.

    The main tasks in the post are as follows:

    VLSI Technology definition, planning and implementation togetherwith National Space Agencies, end-users and semiconductors

    suppliers. Planning and management of the related R&D contracts;

    provision of expert technical support to ESA spacecraft projects interms of VLSI component selection, procurement, qualification and

    failure investigations;

    other day-to-day responsibilities include formulation,implementation, management and promotion of the European

    Component Initiative activities, participation and coordination of the

    appropriate ESCC and ECSS working groups, definition, review and

    maintenance of component engineering standards and specifications

    and manufacturer audits.

    QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a university degree or equivalent

    qualification in physics, electronics or a related subject.

    The candidate should be able to demonstrate existing professionalexperience as an expert in the VLSI domain on at least one of the two

    major VLSI component type (FPGA or ASIC). Good knowledge of

    working with engineering requirements for space or other demanding

    applications (e.g. aerospace, military, automotive) is expected.

    Professional background related to Product Assurance/Quality

    Assurance activities or the aptitude to run laboratory testing and

    qualification activities as well as familiarity with coordination and

    management of large R&D activities is considered as significant assets.

    The candidate should also have strong interpersonal relationship skills as

    well as team spirit, leadership aptitude and easy capability ofnetworking.

    Considering the variety of tasks to be performed and the ESA multi-

    project environment, applicants should demonstrate to be highly

    innovative, dynamic, pragmatic and interested in widening the

    knowledge base in the context space applications.

    The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good

    knowledge of one of these two languages is required. Knowledge of

    another member state language is an asset.
