Transcript of Es c o n d i d o Fish & Ga m E aEd Smith (Smitty) 760-745-2927 Chief Range Officer Tom Kendall...
Hello everyone,
I would like to start by wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!
Because of the recent rains, the range is looking green & very nice. We should clean up the wads and the clay birds four times a year (which will really enhance the appearance) and we will try to schedule it as such in the future.
November 13 & 14, as an Eagle Scout Project, Michael Goodman, a member of the Assoc., installed a very rustic looking fence around the surge tank in the campground to keep the primitive site intent alive. He was also responsible for acquiring the nine fire rings which we installed. I would like to thank Harvey Throop and, of course, the ever dependable Craig Rogers for volunteering their expertise and tools to get this accomplished. Also, I would like to thank Bob Evans for acquiring the wood for free and helping me trim the boards.
There are several other Eagle Scout Projects on the horizon which will help keep the costs down and benefit the Scout immensely.
The Range Enhancement Project is moving forward but not as fast as I would like. However, we have a Project Manager with the County assigned to our project that has had some involvement with our range in the past and sees the whole picture. If we can get past this Hydrology study approval, things will progress at a much faster pace.
I hope to get a good turnout at the Christmas Meeting this month. Bring a toy and help donate to Toys for Tots.
Enjoy,

R A N G E M A S T E RS O U N D O F F
To all Members and Range Safety Officers.
I hope everyone had good Thanksgiving. We are deep into the holiday season. Please be aware that during the holidays we normally experience a greater number of members and guests on the ranges. This requires more vigilance on everyone's part, as SAFETY is our number one priority, along with the consideration of others.
Remember, at the December General meeting we have the Range Safety Officer yearly drawing. This is our way of saying thanks to all of the
dedicated range officers for volunteering their time and effort toward keeping a safe and secure range for all of us. The drawing is for active RSO's only. For each shift worked since December of last year, a ticket with your name will be entered. The grand prize is: A Savage 93R bolt action rifle in 17HMR, with an Alpen 4-12 x 40mm scope. Second and third place prizes will also be presented. Please note that you do not have to be present to win. An RSO will be eligible for one prize only.
I would like to remind everyone to bring new toys (not wrapped) to the December General meeting for Toys For Tots. The Toys for Tots drive is organized by the US Marines and they will have representatives at the meeting. The toys are distributed by the Marines to children of deployed Marines.
Please remember to schedule your RSO shift(s) in advance. The monthly sign-up sheets are in the Trap Ramada, on top of the green storage box. These sign-ups must be completed by the 15th of each month to allow time for posting in the newsletter. These sign-up sheets are used to determine the shifts that are not covered (RSO NEEDED). If you have available time, other than your scheduled shift, please check the newsletter and/or the posted RSO Calendar to determine where help is needed. The RSO Calendar is placed on each range and in the Trap Ramada. Any additional help is always greatly appreciated.
Frank Alessio conducted the last NRA Certified Range Safety Officer class. His helpers were Jack Bryson, Thomas Kendall and Ed Smith (Smitty). Officer L. Shaver of the Escondido Police Department was a special guest student. Officer Shaver assists Al Ardale with his Home Defense Class and is also the EPD's Range Safety Officer.
Congratulations to the following RSO's that have recently completed the NRA Range Safety Officer Certification Class:
Glen Futado, Therese Thomas, Donna Woods, Don Jackson, Steve Willer, John Pierce, John Kennedy, Curt Sommers and Joe Coppolino.
In the past year, we have added twenty-three new Range Safety Officers to our staff. We are well into the requirement that the NRA certify all EF&GA Range Safety Officers. When you see one of our new RSO's on the range please say hello.
We are always looking for new additions to the RSO ranks. If you are interested in becoming an RSO, please contact:Tom Kendall - Chief Range Safety OfficerC. Lee Allen - Asst. Chief Range Safety Officer
I want to thank all of our range officers for their time and dedication to the safe environment that they provide at EFGA. Without your service, this range would very likely not be in existence.
To all members and guests. Periodically we find it necessary to mention specific conditions that may not be clear to everyone. Every range has target frames specifically for use at that range. The pistol range and the two rifle range target frames are intended for BULLET type ammo only. These target frames ARE NOT TO BE USED with BIRD SHOT AMMO. For shotgun patterning, a specific target frame is provided between the pistol range and the number one trap house. Be sure to observe the rules for use. If you are shooting BIRD SHOT in a Pistol, we suggest you set a cardboard patterning target on the PISTOL RANGE for that purpose. PLEASE DO NOT USE the regular target frames when shooting BIRD SHOT.
Tom Kendall and I would like to wish Happy Holidays and a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year to all.
C. Lee Allen Asst. Chief Range Safety Officer
