Letter of Recommendation - Ervina Atan
To Whom it may Concern,
Ervina Atan has been with us in St Gabriel's Secondary School since 2009
as a teacher of Malay Language. Her contributions to the school are wellregarded, especially in the area of creating language and cultural awareness.
These have resulted in positive academic and non-academic outcomes.
Ervina's active involvement in her co-curricular Activity [ccA) - the
Aesthetics Recreation Club - and elsewhere has brought good results to the
school. In fune 2011 she worked with me in preparing our entrant for the Plain
English Speaking Award IPESA) competition, organized annually by the YMCA
Singapore in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. Under her careful
guidance, for the first time, our speaker was able to progress to be one of the
final eight contestants and he was awarded a Silver Scroll Award.
Ervina was also involved in preparing students for a storytellingcompetition during the 2011 Racial Harmony Day Festival' Infusing Asian
folklore with values of National Education, the presentation was well received.
Her creative involvement in the school's 201-0 Speech Day performance entitled
the Celebration of Talents received strong response from the studentcommunity. It was a platform for students to showcase a wide range of talents
and was much appreciated by parents. In particular, Ervina's students' dance-
drama interpretation of Martin Luther King's speech "l HaVe A Dream" was
praised by all.
Ervina's creativity led her to stage a lunch time performance during the
2010 Racial Harmony Day celebrations. This used favanese shadow puppets to
tell the story of a popular South-East Asian historical figure in an accessible and
eye-catching way to a racially diverse audience. This also demonstrated her
bilingualism in written and spoken Malay and English.
Ervina is an enthusiastic and determined teacher, with a deep interestand considerable talent in using the literature of many cultures to enliven herinstructional programme and her other student group activities. She would be an
asset to any organisation that takes her on'

Ervina Atan taught for 5 years at East View Primary School. I worked with her fromDecember 2005 when I was newly posted to the school till mid 2006 when Ervina embarked onher 3 year study leave period to pursue her degree course.
Based on school records, Ervina was first posted to East View Primary School in 2001 asa beginning teacher. Throughout her stint in East View, she had developed her teaching skills in
the classroom and as a co-curricular teacher with the courses that she attended as well as theexperience gathered through her interaction with students and parents. Ervina was a multi-tasker, giving her best in the duties assigned to her. She had taught a variety of subjects such asMalay Language, English, Art, Physical Education, Civics and Moral Education and HealthEducation. She was responsible for initiating a structured dance programme for the dance club atEast View Primary, applying what she had learnt from her courses at the La Salle School ofPerforming Arts and Commonwealth Society for Teachers and Dance (CSTD) in collaborationwith the Ministry of Education, Co-Curricular Branch. Her enthusiasm for the arts was seen fromthe way she conducted her rehearsals and got the students to enjoy dance as an art form.
Ervina was also the chairman for the Staff Welfare Committee (2004-mid 2006) andcharged with organizing staff dinners and functions as well as interesting programs pertaining tostaff welfare. Ervina was well-received by her colleagues and enjoyed very good rapport with thechildren and parents.
