A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN

Ertech celebrated 30 years of continuous profitable operation in last 2011, and it gives me great pleasure to present a snapshot of our business as it is today through the latest edition of On Track.

The last five years have seen significant development in Ertech’s capability and capacity. New operations have been brought into the Ertech fold and today the company is one of Australia’s Top 200 private companies, delivering more than $320m in projects in the last financial year.

To capitalise on future growth opportunities, we recently reorganised our business structure. The revised structure provides a robust framework to manage continued profitable and disciplined growth of existing operations, as well as the incorporation of additional businesses.

Gavin Miller is now Managing Director of Ertech Holdings and James Giumelli, Will Telfer and Phil Harcourt are Managing Directors of Ertech, FormAction and Duratec respectively.

In March 2012, we established a new business entity, namely Ertech Geomarine. Newly appointed Managing Director, Alec Courts brings a wealth of experience in marine infrastructure construction and the delivery of geotechnical services to this business. We are confident that under Alec’s leadership we will succeed in growing another Ertech Holdings business that delivers on our clients needs and expectations.

With over 850 employees, a large inventory of owned plant and equipment, and a strong management team, Ertech Holdings and its operating entities have the resources and capability to drive sustainable business growth in our targeted sectors.

I am personally very satisfied with our achievements over the last 30 years and in particular the development and diversification of the business in last five years. We will continue our focus on disciplined growth of all business entities to ensure we maintain our history of profitable operation.

We are operating in exciting times; a time of unprecedented industry activity that will challenge everyone in the industry. Our focus will be on continuing to enhance our relationships with our long-term clients, partners and suppliers to ensure we deliver quality projects, on time, safely and as cost-effectively as possible.

We thank our valued clients, partners, suppliers and employees for your loyal support over the years and look forward to strengthening our relationships during the next phase of our organisation’s development.

CHCHEVRON AUSTRALIA

THIRD MAJOR CONTRACT AWARD AT GORGONErtech has secured the general services contract with Chevron Australia for the Chevron-operated Gorgon Project on Barrow island, off the coast of Western Australia.

The General Services contract is estimated to be AU$50 million over 12 months. It is the third contract to be awarded to Ertech and follows on from the Gorgon Site Development and WAPET Landing contract.

The General Services contract comprises the provision of a multi-skilled work force and equipment which will be based on the Project Site on Barrow Island. Ertech will provide support for the main construction activities on Barrow Island, which include roadworks, earthworks, civil, mechanical, electrical and building works.

Executive Chairman of Ertech Holdings Jim Giumelli said “The contract confirms Ertech’s reputation as a resourceful engineering contractor capable of delivering a broad range of services to the high standards expected in the Oil and Gas Industry.”

Ertech is delighted to secure another contract with Chevron. Since commencing on Barrow Island in 2009 we have safely delivered over $250 million of construction works for Chevron. As always we gain great satisfaction from generating repeat business from our clients.

NEW QUARANTINE FACILITY Ertech has built a $700,000 quarantine and logistics warehouse to service the growing supply needs to the Gorgon Project and our other major remote projects.

The grand opening of the warehouse was attended by WA Small Business Minister Simon O’Brien, Environment Minister Bill Marmion, representatives from Chevron and Ertech staff members.

The purpose built facility is dedicated to providing stringent quarantine services. Every single piece of equipment that is despatched to Barrow Island is checked, thoroughly cleaned and inspected, suitably packaged and quarantine sprayed with an insecticide. The building itself is also treated (by spray and baits) regularly for insects and rodents.

Chevron Australia Gorgon Downstream Manager Paul McGrath said “The warehouse was a crucial component of the Barrow Island Quarantine Management System, regarded to be world’s best practice”.

The new warehouse demonstrates Ertech’s significant commitment to to meeting the needs of our clients.

• Gorgon is one of the largest natural gas projects and the largest single-resource project in Australia’s history.

QUICK FACTS• Carina, found by Polaris, is one of five ore bodies located in the

Yilgarn Iron Ore Project area. The Yilgarn Iron Ore Project (YIOP) encompasses approximately 1,000km² of mining tenements 50km north of Koolyanobbing in Western Australia.

• The primary and secondary crushing facility contains 880m3 of concrete and is 24 metres high and 53 metres long.

• Also constructed under the contract was a train load-out facility, primary screening facility, 2.2kms of rail footings totalling 3,900m3 of concrete.

POLARIS METALS

SOLID FOUNDATIONS IN THE YILGARNCRUSHING SERVICES INTERNATIONAL (CSI) ENGAGED FORMACTION TO CONSTRUCT A NEW CRUSHING FACILITY AT THE YILGARN IRON ORE PROJECT. The project valued at $11M included construction of a concrete structure that houses the primary and secondary crushing facilities at the Carina mine. The upgraded crushing facilities will enable Polaris Metals to sustain 5Mt of iron ore annually for up to 20 years from the Yilgarn project.

As a separate contract, Formaction also provided significant upgrade works to the client’s Kwinana export facility to accommodate the increased output.

At peak construction over 40 people were employed on the FIFO project, with all enjoying the provision of first class camp facilities.

FormAction Senior Project Engineer Ed Morgan said, “By working in close collaboration with CSI the project was delivered on time, safely and to a high standard. It has been a pleasure to be involved in this project. It is one of many projects we have delivered for CSI in the last few years and we hope to continue to strengthen our successful partnership”.

FormAction used a new ‘in-house developed’ formwork system during construction which enhanced productivity on the project.

ANOTHER GOLDFIELDS WINNERFORMACTION’S LEADERSHIP POSITION IN THE

GOLDFIELDS HAS BEEN REINFORCED WITH EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE ON THE KOOLYANOBBING IRON ORE

UPGRADE PROJECT FormAction’s involvement in the recent Koolyanobbing upgrade has enabled the mine to increase output from 5 to 8.5 Mtpa. The project included the construction of a new ROM pad which involved approximately 100,000m3 of earth to create a reinforced earth retaining wall totalling over 800m2. In addition footings for four new conveyor lines and the slabs/supports were constructed for a new primary crusher, truck stop, screenings and secondary crusher. This totalled 1300m3 of concrete and 225 tonnes of steel reinforcement.

The project was delivered safely while the existing plant remained fully operational. Despite a significant increase in concrete quantities FormAction delivered the project on time.

FORMACTION COMMENCED THEIR SECOND MAJOR PROJECT AT FORTESCUE’S CHRISTMAS CREEK MINE FOLLOWING THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE FIRST CRUSHER IN MARCH 2010.

In November 2010, FMG approved an $8.4bn expansion programme to increase the capacity of its Pilbara iron-ore operations to 155Mtpa by 2014. Phase two expansion of the Christmas Creek mine is currently underway. The new expansion will increase capacity to 95Mtpa and is expected to come online by December 2012.

FormAction was re-engaged by Crushing Services International (CSI) after the successful completion of the first crusher construction. The second crusher project is significantly larger and includes over 14,000m3 of structural concrete. To accommodate the fast-tracked program over 120 site based personnel were required, many of which were involved with the construction of the first crusher.

This is FormAction’s largest project to date and included their biggest single concrete pour. During the installation Fortescue’s Chairman Andrew Forest surprised the crews with an impromptu visit.

Reaching skyward the highest point of the project on completion will be the top of the primary crusher, at 28m above the original ground level.

The project also included a secondary and tertiary crusher, conveyors, desands building and screen building. Extra works included a jigging plant foundation, 7km of conveyor footings and the concrete installation for the coarse ore stockpile.

INTERNAL MAKEOVER AT 726 HAY STREETDURATEC HAS PLAYED AN INTEGRAL ROLE IN EXTENDING THE LIFE OF ONE OF WA’S HERITAGE LISTED BUILDINGS. These works involved a variety of remediation techniques developed by consultants Airey Taylor, and included waterproofing, specialist product installations, conventional concrete repair with cathodic protection, crack injection and over 8,500m2 of glass flake epoxy coatings.

The site is the old Walsh’s building that was originally built in 1923 and is being converted into new offices and retail tenancies.

Duratec’s Operations Manager Deane Diprose said, “This challenging project tapped into the wealth of experience of Duratec’s team enabling the best repair methodologies to be selected in collaboration with all stakeholders.”

RAMELIUS RESOURCES

GOLD AGAIN AT HILL 50DURATEC WAS CONTRACTED BY GR ENGINEERING TO REFURBISH THE ANI AND SAG MILL CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS AND TO PROTECT THE HCL BUND AND ELUTION AREA CONCRETE FROM CHEMICAL ATTACK.These works were all part of the greater scope of work to recommence operations at the old Hill 50 gold mine near Mt Magnet, 600kms north east of Perth. The mill has been under care and maintenance since 2007. In July, 2010 Ramelius Resources purchased the Mt Magnet gold project for $40 million from Harmony Gold.

Further works completed around the site included the stockpile plinth concrete repairs, conveyor plinth pedestal repairs and the application of protective coatings throughout the elution area.

The refurbished mine is expected to produce at least 520,000 ounces over 6 years.

Above right: all the degraded mill plinth concrete was removed before the reinforcement was treated and the concrete was reinstated using the gunite spray method.

Right: application of a high performance coating system in the HCl area. Steuler coatings provide excellent protection from chemical attack while remaining flexible enough to withstand any expansion and contraction movement of the concrete substrate.

PRESERVING RIO TINTO’S MARINE ASSETSDURATEC REPAIRS DOLPHINS FOR RIO TINTO’S DAMPIER SALT EXPORT FACILITY ON MISTAKEN ISLAND.

THE SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE FROM DURATEC HAS CONDUCTED HIMSELF IN A VERY PROFESSIONAL MANNER. HE LEADS BY EXAMPLE AND HAS BEEN A GREAT HELP TO DSL...” PIETER ZIETSMAN - DAMPIER SALT

The project was completed over seven weeks in the Pilbara cool season. It included: removal and replacement of mooring hooks; removal and replacement of mooring fenders on three dolphins; removal and reinstatement of cracked and delaminated cover concrete including replacement of severely corroded reinforcing steel; design, supply, installation and commissioning of Duogard - hybrid cathodic protection system to protect the mooring dolphin’s embedded reinforcing steel; and removal of existing fender steelwork, brackets and marine growth from the mooring dolphin support piles followed by surface preparation and pile protective wrapping with Denso Sea Shield jackets.

Working at heights, performing multiple tasks and managing several subcontractors (divers, boiler makers, hydro-demolition and scaffolders) on seven mooring dolphins in a marine environment provided many challenges. Access to the dolphins was by barge and strong tides and winds increased the degree of difficulty of daily mobilisation and works on the structures. All hydro-demolition waste required filtering before being released and the sea water quality was tested on a daily basis for contamination.

Duratec embraced all these challenges and successfully delivered the project without any major safety or environmental incidents; on time; and in compliance with the specification.

• Dampier Salt Limited (DSL) was formed in late 1967 to build the Dampier operation with the first shipment of salt of 19,000 tonnes leaving for Japan in April 1972.

• Dampier Salt has three salt operations located at Dampier, Port Hedland and Lake MacLeod. The three operations now produce 10.3 million tonnes of salt per year.

• The Duogard hybrid CP installation involves a combination of traditional impressed current CP and sacrificial anodes. This system provides significant cost savings on installation and ongoing maintenance.

• Duratec Australia’s workforce on the project reached over 40 and work was completed running day and night shifts.

ERTECH CONSTRUCTION ACADEMY

ECA CELEBRATES A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

Ertech can now boast training over 59 graduates between 2008 and 2011 from its Perth and Broome training academies. The motivation for the ECA program is to provide opportunities for school students to begin a pathway to a career in civil construction. The successful model used at the Perth Academy was replicated in Broome on the Broome North project in 2011. The program has been fully funded by Ertech since inception.

The highlights for the ECA last year have been the Try-A-Trade and Careers days held in Perth and Broome, the winning of the NAB Schools First Local Impact Award (page 5) and the general recognition by industry that Ertech is genuinely committed to the development of Australia’s youth.

The Try-a-Trade days gave younger students (normally year 10) an insight into the civil construction industry. Try-a-Trade day offers information and practical demonstrations to enable students to better understand our industry, and determine whether it’s right for them.
