Erosion Safety on the Road
Have you ever noticed road break away, dirt and rocks moving through rivers, or even a path for water that hasn’t been there before?
This is called erosion. This means that wind, water, and weather can move dirt, rocks, and other debris. Erosion has caused the road out-
side Lake County Middle School to break away by snow melting. When the snow melts, it turns into water and gets in the cracks of the
road. Overnight it freezes and expands. These holes in the road can pop cars’ tires and make them flip over or swerve off the road. We
can fit this by making new roads or putting down more asphalt on the road. This will help because if we make a new road, it will all be
smooth and keep people safe.

Erosion and Staying Safe
In Leadville, Colorado there are a lot of places in the city where there is erosion. One place is on Cleridon Avenue. On the road,
there is a lot of erosion. There are two types of erosion occurring here. The first type of erosion on the road is the water erosion. The wa-
ter type is very effective because the water can go so fast and make a big ditch. Also, it will move the dirt and rocks. The other type of
erosion that affecting the road is the wind because blows the dirt and rocks and makes it worse. I interviewed Marni Wight Garrison and
she said, "The road was just gushing with water. One of our friends made a reference that it was like class 5 rapids.”
This type of erosion is unsafe because your car can get stuck in the ditch and you have to buy new parts. Also, the water can go so
fast it can pull rocks and dirt and damage the houses on the street.
One solution is to pack the ditch with dirt and have the water flow in another direction. I also suggest talking to the governor to
put gravel in the pipe and stop the water.

Erosion at the Lake County Middle School
On the Lake County Middle School playground there are trees ready to fall because of all the snow melting. When the snow melts
it turns into water and brings down the dirt that is supporting the tree, which is called erosion. The soil starts getting brought to the
bottom of the hill. If it rains, the mud can make a mudslide. The roots are sticking out on all trees, too. Water near the trees can make
the roots fall out even more and the tree can collapse. It is really dangerous for kids. They could slip with all the mud on the ground. Also,
the trees could hurt kids really bad if they fall. We should either remove the trees or put more dirt so it can cover the roots! We should
also cover the dirt with gravel to slow erosion from happening.

Erosion on the Playground Hill
The damage at the Lake County Middle School playground is the mud on the big hill outside. This is a problem because there are rocks and mud
on the hill. The water washes the dirt away leaving behind rocks. This can become a mudslide if it rains a lot. Erosion is caused by wind, snow, water,
and ice. We should be careful when there is a storm, because it can cause more erosion. Kids are also getting hurt because of the rocks. Also next year
if we still have this problem and if it isn't fixed, we will have younger kids in the school and it will be unsafe when they trip and fall. We want to try to
get this fixed so we don't have this problem. We can fix this by having construction men put some gravel on the hillside. It will keep the dirt in place
and have less mud. Some other things we could do are to pack the gravel down and put a stairway so it is easier to get up. Also, on some places plant
grass so it will be easier to walk on and hold the dirt in place.

Erosion on the Hill
On the Lake County Middle School playground there are many unsafe things going on. At the playground we saw a small puddle of mud
and water at the bottom of the hill by the basketball court. Erosion created this by the snow melting on top of dirt, and when snow and water mix
it turns into mud. When mud is on a hill it can turn into a mudslide. This is affecting the playground because some animals may get stuck in the
mudslide and also it is ruining the playground. If it ruins the area, we won't be able to play on the playground anymore. Our solution to this is that
we could put a fence or something around the damaged area. This will help solve the problem by stopping it from spreading down the hill.

A Danger on the Playground
A danger on the playground at the Lake County Middle School is the hill. When it rains, it makes a big mud puddle at the
bottom of the hill from all of the dirt eroding. Water washes down all of the dirt and it makes it dangerous. Soon the 3rd and 4th
graders are going to move into this school so the hill problem will get worse. Also, when there are rocks on the hill and it rains,
it could cause a mudslide. One way to stop this is to put a roof over the hill because the water will not go down and make mud.
If we do not fix this hill soon it will cause more and more problems and could cause someone to get hurt or cause them to
break a bone. This hill needs to be fixed for everyone’s safety.
