The school library on School

Intranet

In the school library we are big fans of the school Intranet, but we also have easy access to computers.

Our weekly messages – The School Library Informs and Reminder Service for CFU are read by a lot of people, and we also think that our reservation

system works very well on a daily basis.

We have cleaned up in the book repository and counted all class book sets

(min. 15 books of a title). It is now possible to book these on the Intranet under Coordination –

school library – weekly loans.

Other things and information from the school library you will find under coordination – school library, and of course on the school website.

About this years catalogue

This year the content of our activity catalogue will be very similar to last year catalogue. Partly this is due to the fact that many of last year’s activities have

proven themselves to be excellent activities, which we want this year’s classes to

have the opportunity to participate in as well, and partly because we have chosen

a couple of focus areas that we want to put some extra effort into.

First of all we wish to make Hillerødsholmskolens School Library more visible to the parents. We would like to be included, when new classes start up. We would

like to tell the parents about our many offers, our library science and information

literacy education, our media education and last but not least communicate results

and products.

To solve this task we will manly use the parents Intranet and the school website.

Secondly we would like to strengthen our cooperation with the subject teams, also

trying to get complete overview of our book situation regarding class sets and

books for the students, so we can improve the standard and ensure that there is

always enough books for everybody.

Finally, as almost all classes will be using the Student Intranet this year, the

school library wants to do their very best to get optimal usage out of this

opportunity for all parts. See you in the new school year in the school library!

Library Class

Year:

0. – 5.

Time: Same time every week

Time spend:

Around 30 minutes each

time

Place:

The school library

Arrangør: Skolebiblioteket

If you and your class are planning to go to the school library at a set time every week, we would very much like to know this in advance.

If you choose this form, we recommend that you devote 30 minutes each time, so you don’t just storm in and out of the door like little rockets, but

have time to find books, read for fun and maybe have a story read aloud to

you in a quiet moment.

Just let us know if for a library class you need us to recommend suitable books for your class.

Come down to the school library and reserve a weekly time – before the summer holiday. We will only have one class for each lesson.

"It only takes 5 minutes To borrow a book

But we really want you

To stay a little longer …………….and read"

Sign up at the school library!

Library knowledge and Information literacy

Year:

2, 4 and 6

Time: See page 27 ”When is

what?”

Time used:

1 module in the chosen week

Sted: School library

Arranger: School library

Every single day we see how important it is that our students are knowledgeable and self-sufficient, regardless of:

They are in year 1 or 9 They need to find a specific book

They need to find a specific author

They need to find materials about a specific subject They need to find relevant websites

Or other things.

That is why:

As the previous years we want to teach library knowledge and information literacy in year 2, 4 and 6, but if you need help in any other year, just let

us know.

You can see the content of this course on the Personnel Intranet under

coordination/school library/library knowledge.

Please note that it would be best for all parts, if it is the same teachers who

take part in the introduction meeting and the 2 media days.

We come up with the program for the 2 days, but if you have other ideas, or the students are already capable of the suggested, we will work

something out.

When the course is over, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you use the newly

gained skills, so they are not quickly forgotten.

Now it is time to combine running and learning once again!

The school library arranges a fairytale race around the school, where the students have to find their way around by their own help in smaller groups.

Teddy bear / doll Photo Story

Year:

3.

Time: Week 1 (introduction)

Time used:

Around 4 lessons

Place: The computer lab

Arranger:

Classroom teacher and the school library

In Media Education your class has learned to use Photo Story, so now it could be interesting to see, what they can do “on their own”.

The class is split up into smaller groups. Each student brings a doll, teddy bear, action man or something similar to

school. This has to be part of the group’s story.

With their starting point in the dolls and teddy bears the students have brought, the group must tell a story by means of digital pictures, texts,

speech, sound and music in the Photo Story program. The groups can choose their own form of expression as their background.

Before this project begins the school library provides a short introduction including repetition of the use of Photo Story. After this you work on your

own in the classroom and in the computer lab.

To finish the project we watch the many photo stories together in the school auditorium a day in week 4.

The school library will reserve digital cameras and the computer lab for signed up classes.

Reading Rocket

Year:

4.

Time:

Friday March 26th

Time used: 1 lesson + what you feel like

Place: The auditorium and the classroom

Arranger: The school

library and the

classroom teacher

In the whole world there are 99 million children, who can’t read and don’t go to school.

In 2010 focus will be on a new country in the third world.

This is a fact that the third world aid organization Ibis would like to make Danish school children aware of by issuing the Reading Rocket (a book with

stories and articles inviting to discussion and consideration of education in

the third world) in cooperation with famous Danish authors and sponsors. By participating, 4th grade will contribute to making it a tradition to focus

on third world problems the last Friday before Easter.

Besides from working with the book ”Reading Rocket 2010”, we imagine

that the school library makes a small introduction to the subject.

On top of this different materials are provided from Ibis, who are putting focus on this problem, and which you can work creatively with.

You can also find information on the website: http://www.ibis.dk

Time: Week 45 and 46

Time used:

Danish lessons

Place: The classroom

Arranger:

The Danish teacher and the school library

How about having a reading marathon in the Danish lessons in week 45 and 46?

The school library will find books for the students to choose from, while you

read in the classroom.

The students read half an hour of each Danish lesson. After each reading, you come down to the school library and register the

average number of pages for the day on the interactive whiteboard.

The average number of pages must be used to solve a hard jigsaw puzzle –

also on the interactive whiteboard.

This was a great success last year.

Time: Week 43

Time used:

45 min. + 1 lesson

Place: The big halls in front of the

library

Arranger: Annette Bregnehave and the school library

The school library and the arts and crafts department have invested in both a Danish and a European art collection.

These are very used, but they can be used even more.

Some of the students will be given tasks connected to the pictures; others

will work with “tableu vivante"

It is not so much about the individual artist, but more a quest for details and interpretations of the pictures.

As an introduction you will be visited by the art expert in the school: Annette Bregnehave for 45 min.

Graphic Novels and Student Intranet

Year:

5.

Time: Week 2

Time used: Danish lessons for

3 – 4 weeks

Place:

Classroom/school library/computer lab

Arranger: Danish teacher and the school library

Do you know Graphic Novels? They are perfect for 5th grade.

Do you know the Student Intranet and its opportunities? It is perfect for 5th grade.

We imagine a project of around 4 weeks.

As an introduction, we meet in the auditorium, where the school library will introduce the genre, the 4 graphic novel titles and the project with student

Intranet (app. 1 lesson) After this you spend 4 weeks reading the graphic novels and working with

them in the classroom.

When you have finished the literature work with the graphic novels, the students have to pick one of the books to continue working with in Student

Intranet, where they can make questionnaires, multiple choice quizzes,

websites and other things. Finally you spend time looking at each other’s products, solving quizzes and

more.

The school library will buy 10 copies of four titles. Unfortunately the Graphic novels can only be used at the school for the

logistics to work.

The school library will reserve computer labs for signed up classes

murder of Johanne Jensen

Your movie must be made and edited in Movie Maker and be no longer than

10 minutes. In the movie you must include some of the film clips and

This project is a perfect chance to do cross subject collaboration, including Danish, social studies, biology, math and physics. On

http://drabssag.emu.dk/order.htm you can read more about the teaching

material and try a demo of the game.

The Danish department and the school library have bought the materials for

the project together. The material also includes a very good teacher’s

guide.

This will be the fourth year in a row we play this game, and we have built

some experience, fx about number of teachers, important specialty

teachers, rooms, computers, time, preparation and so on. Before starting Melved – the case we offer an introduction meeting, where it is very important that all participating teachers are present.

Tapé is a mimic, artistic clown, who has entertained thousands of children and adults in and outside of Denmark for the last 17 years.

His versatile and humorous circus shows offers something to eyes, ears and

to the laughing muscles.

The show is a mixture of and classical clown acts. Tapé unfolds himself with

guitar play with the notes balancing on his forehead, opera on chimes, high balance and a “legs around your neck” act.

All of this is performed at a high pace and in close connection with the

audience, who has an active role along the way.

The show is wordless and can be understood by everyone – regardless of

age and nationality.

Behind the nose you find the mimic artist Henrik Rasmussen, who besides performing as a clown gives lectures on body language,
