RTOs boost EU annual economic growth byEUR 50 billion [Technolpolis Group, October 27 2010].
There are around 350 RTOs in Europe, they contribute EUR 50billion to the EU economy
RTO’s are focussing on applied research, bringing both newand existing knowledge
RTOs increase the rate of innovation in industry by helpingcompanies to go beyond the limits of their internaltechnological capabilities
RTO’s are funded by public and industrial income, which allowsthem to exploit their capabilities for the benefit of industry.
RTOs are also working together with academia
BRIDGE PPP: creates a tipping point inEU’s BbE development
Developing new value chains, de-risking investment indemonstration projects of innovative processes and in buildingfirst-of-its-kind flagship plants.
A long term strategic research and innovation agenda jointlyfunded by public and private players will help address thischallenge.
The Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda (SIRA)
The SIRA includes a balanced combination of:
Value chain demonstration projects aiming towards integration and
deployment of technologies and R&D results into actual value chains and bringing
technology close to commercial scale through up-scaling in demonstration activities and
flagship projects
R&D projects focused on technological innovations:dedicated projects on the development of specific technologies and concepts needed to
realise the value chains, and proving the principles in pilot installations
Supporting projects, addressing the cross-sector challenges and supporting
the value chains to become reality.
