INTRODUCTION The present publication is dedicated to the project participants to the Thematic Cluster meeting on Knowledge Alliances; The 'Knowledge Alliances Pilot Call' projects managed by the Directorate General for Education and Culture (DG EAC), the 'Knowledge Alliances Projects' (EKA) selected in 2012 and 2013 by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), and also a selection of 2013 'Erasmus Quality and Relevance through Cooperation Projects' (EQR) that are thematically related also managed by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). The Compendium is a contribution to a better dissemination of information about ongoing projects and networking tool among project coordinators. In this Compendium you will find a short description of each project, the contact details of the beneficiary and coordinating organisations and a list of partners involved in the project. The projects are grouped by action and by priority (for multilateral projects) and further listed in numerical order of the beneficiary organisation. This will allow you to easily identify projects coordinated by organisations or obtain an overview of themes and subjects covered under individual actions. Please note the Compendia reflect the state of projects at the beginning of their life, which means that data such as duration, composition of the partnership or contact details may change during the lifetime of the project.

Title:

The aim of this project is to produce a panel of industrialists and educationaliststhat will propose the competences and outcomes required for education inbiotechnology, of future and current employees of the pharmaceutical industry. These will then be put on an interactive surveymonkey (https://www.surveymonkey.net/) website and ranked using Delphi methodology inimportance by a wider panel of industrialists and academics (drawn in a firststage from EIPG and EAFP membership with a snowballing effect for recruitmentof others). Using several rounds of the Delphi process, a consensual, hierarchallist of competences and outcomes will be produced and possible factoidcompetences removed. The list will then be used to adapt the education andtraining in biotechnology given at HEIs.

All information will also be freely available with no copyright or ownership issuesinvolved, to other European organisations, associations, HEIs, big pharma, etc.wishing to produce similar courses. Through its European network of MemberAssociations, the European Iundustrial Pharmacists' Group will advertise theresults of the project to employees of the pharmaceutical industry. The EuropeanAssociation of Faculties of Pharmacy and the PHARMINE network will ensuredissemination to academics. In all cases dissemination will be through classicalchannels: websites, conference presentations, email newsletters, and journalarticles.

This project will have a substantial impact on employees of the drug industryprovding them with the skills they need in a fast-changing world. This will impacton the competitivity of the European pharmaceutical industry. Ultimately theproject will impact on the well-being of the European population through the R&Dand production of safer, more effective, modern-day medicines.

Title:

distributed Concurrent Design Framework for eLearning in IT Entrepreneurship Entrepreneurial ability is closely linked to the personality, cannot be taught in thetraditional sense, but can be developed through training.

dCCDF project will address the following 2 factors*THE graduates need more than just their degree to access employment. Theirfuture employers across all sectors ask for and need greater capacity forentrepreneurial thinking and also experience in cooperation both at a distanceand across cultural boundaries.*The potential for knowledge transfer between HE and industry needs to beimproved.

The consortium will jointly develop an entrepreneurial training that is designed tofit and bring together HE students and professionals within the IT sector. In thisprocess they will use the Osterwalder business model framework developed forboth personal and business development. It will raise their entrepreneurialawareness and promote bilateral knowledge transfer through collaborationbetween the two groups of learners

In a globalised world it is increasingly routine to collaborate online therefore theproposed training will be offered online. The training will be• offered online• comprise a mixture of HE and industry-based learners• focus first on personal development plans • require small groups of learners to become familiar with their respectiveinstitutions’ innovations• progress to a business development plan• include an internal dissemination plan• end with a peer-reviewed online presentation CCD is a highly structured process method to exploit the different stakeholders’often conflicting requirements in an optimal way, thereby increasing collaborationand involvement in groups such as• Participants in an EU project• A group creating an entrepreneurship training• Students in an entrepreneurship training where they have to link the interests ofdifferent stakeholders at both universities and companies in preparing a businessplan.

Title:

The European Business Growth Catalyst (EBGC) project will develop a newblended learning programme for managers and owners of European Small toMedium Sized Businesses (SMEs), to grow their businesses, innovate andbecome more European in their focus and trade. EBGC responds directly to the contemporary European context of the crisis, inwhich business growth for SMEs in partner countries of UK,ES and EL is aparamount concern for future job and wealth creation (SBA, 2012). Via aconsortium of EU HE Institutions and SME partners, dedicated to developingskills in growing European Business and wealth creation, EBGC re-inforces thecontribution of Higher Education across Europe to Advanced VocationalEducation (see Life Long Learning Programme, Strategic Priorities 2013, p 19). Jointly developed and delivered by HE and SMEs, EBGC will consist of 7modules to cover different elements crucial to understanding and taking action toinnovate and internationalise in European SMEs. Materials will be in EN, EL andES. Training the Trainers materials will also be developed to pass on themethodology to others. EBGC methodology will link learning about businessgrowth with the actions needed to ensure business growth and innovation. Thepedagogic principles are based on action learning, i.e. a learning style whichrequires learners to undertake specific actions, based on guiding methods, followed by the abstraction of lessons drawn from the actions in a specificcontext. These pedagogic principles are to be applied in both face-to-facecontexts, and also mediated via e-learning technology. A Learning Hub onlinewill provide communities of learning for all target groups (SME Owners/Managers; HE educators and SME/VET trainers). Impact will be on EuropeanSME’s immediately, enabling growth (envisaged in job creation) as a result of thelearning. Impact will be also in the long term, via SME’s whose role it will be tooperationalize the EBGC beyond the life of the project.

One of the main reasons to undertake this project is related to strengthen linksbetween Companies and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and to improvedifferent solutions given by students and professors to companies. We aim tocontribute to the “new learning and teaching methods” by creating a platform tomatch company needs and students projects. All partners involved considerimportant to develop new methods to gather these two realities, and as a resultwe intend to create a community that will work together and will solve realproblems. One other reason is to promote an European network betweencompanies (in this specific project, those related to energy) and HEI’s anddecrease the regional networks where a company in one country only work withHEI’s from the same country. We want to contribute to better students for allEuropean space and not only for our countries.

Our main objectives are:a) To transfer the crowdsourcing model into the academic environment;b) To promote the cooperation between companies/ HEI’s;c) To contribute to European economic growth thought more well trained humanresources;d) To develop a system of incentives that promote the involvement of academicswith the business environment;e) To promote the use of technologies into the classes;f) To promote the mobility between European partners, since a group from onecountry could have the best solution for a problem from a company in anothercountry;g) To contribute to the discussion of better solutions for the energy field;h) To create a network of companies and HEI’s in the field of energy;I) To promote curricula development foster by companies involved in theconsortium;J) To run a pilot study, that will join together students, companies and professors, from various countries;L) To display a teaching training to use the platform as a pedagogical tool.

HEKATE aims at supporting the spread of knowledge alliances to fosterentrepreneurship by encouraging senior R&D managers in research intensiveindustries to become more pro actively engaged with HEIs. While manyprogrammes exist to encourage business start-ups, the key role that largercompanies can play in encouraging entrepreneurship is often overlooked.European multi-nationals are leading the way in ‘Open Innovation’: they aresignificant funders of research at HEIs, they act as partners, customers andinvestors in SMEs, and through promotion of intrapreneurship in their ownorganisations and not least by being active in corporate business venturing, theyalso support start-up ventures. Europe has excellent managerial competencies inmulti-nationals, but it remains often an untapped resource when it comes tostrategically fostering entrepreneurial skills in HEIs. Experienced R&D directorsspan both the world of research and business: individually and corporately theycan be inspirational for students and researchers to engage in business creation.HEKATE seeks to explore how this can be developed.

At the core of the HEKATE partnership is the European Industrial ResearchManagement Association (EIRMA). EIRMA’s membership is over 120 companies with significant research andinnovation activities in Europe. It provides access not only to highly competentinnovation managers, but also an effective route to promote the KnowledgeAlliance agenda across all of Europe, independent of any sector. A smallpartnership of two HEIs currently engaged in researching entrepreneurship,Hamburg University of Technology’s Institute for Marketing and Innovation inGermany, and Manchester Business School, within Manchester University, onemature knowledge transfer organisation attached to HEIs with decadesexperience of supporting business start-ups, TuTech, together with an industrialpartner Solvay will form this particular Knowledge Alliance, but with the aim toengage widely.

VALS will establish sustainable methods and processes to build knowledgepartnerships between Higher Education (HE) and companies to collaborate onresolving authentic business problems through open innovation mediated by theuse of Open Source Software (OSS). OSS provides the means whereby HEinstitutions, students, businesses and foundations can all collaborate to resolveauthentic business problems. Not only does OSS provide the necessary sharedinfrastructure and collaborative practice, the foundations which manage thesoftware are also hubs which channel the operational challenges of their usersthrough to the people who can solve them. This has great potential for enablingstudents and supervisors to collaborate in resolving the problems of businesses, but is constrained by the lack of support for managing and promotingcollaboration across the two sectors. VALS will:- Provide the methods, practice, documentation and infrastructure to unlock thispotential through virtual placements in businesses and other public and privatebodies- Pilot and promote these as the “Semester of Code”The consortium of eight is composed of equal numbers of HE institutions andSMEs who have a focus on OSS, and is completed by a number of OSSfoundations as associate partners who have committed to collaborating in theSemester of Code by providing access to problems and problem owners. To achieve its goals the project will develop guidance for HE institutions, and forbusinesses and foundations, detailing the opportunities and the benefits to begained from the Semester of Code, and the changes to organisation and practicerequired. A Virtual Placement System will be developed, adapting ApacheMelange, and extending it where necessary. In piloting, the necessaryadaptations to practice will be carried out, particularly in HE, and commitmentswill be established between problem owners and applicants for virtualplacements. The Semester of Code approach will then be mainstreamed.

Title:

The competitiveness of European industry is a vital requirement for wellbeing inEurope. The companies have constant need for product, process and productiondevelopment. Most European higher education institutes (HEIs) provide highquality engineering education and research, but their resources are not utilizedfor a broad support of industry. The RePCI-project collates the needs of theindustry and finds new ways to answer them in order to support thecompetitiveness of European mechanical engineering companies. In RePCI project four main fundamental changes into university-companycooperation are promoted:1) From random to strategic cooperation2) Competency coaching program for companies3) Real life problem solving process to facilitate new industrial cooperation forstudents and staffmembers4) Connections of the HEI network to form strong supply of expertise

RePCI creates new value adding and goal oriented operational and sustainablepartnerships between companies and HEIs. New learning and teaching methodsin companies and in HEIs are created and demonstrated during the project.Trained competency coaches from partner companies and HEIs are analysing astwosome the learning needs of the staff of companies and planning andmonitoring the implementation of tailored in-company educational solutionsfocusing on removing the bottlenecks of competitiveness. Real life problemsolving processes involve students and staff of HEI’s in solving problems giveninto the process by the companies. A platform is built to serve the cooperation ofHEIs and companies with emphasis on easy access and usability of the platform. All activities are done in international cooperation bringing additional value tocompanies, staff and students of HEIs’. Close cooperation in the processesexpose both company and HEI staff (and students) into new ways of thinking andnew ideas creating a perfect environment for improving skills and newinnovations.

Title:

The aging of both population and workforce is a global issue that has createdconcern about labour and skill shortages in many of the developed countries. InEuropean countries, if nothing is done, there could be only one person employedfor every retiree by 2050, at the same time that labour market could shrink bynearly 15%. This would come with heavy costs to companies’ competitiveness,to the social security systems and to social cohesion, as old-aged population isthe group more vulnerable to poverty.

One way to address this problem is to encourage Older Workers (55 - 64 yo) toremain active members in the workforce. This possible solution faces difficulties, thought. Negative stereotypes towards these workers and an actual lack ofknowledge on how to approach, from an HR management perspective, many ofthe challenges of recruiting and retaining Older Workers, reflect on lowemployment rates for this group.

The iHRM project aims to develop an innovative training course for HRmanagers , based in m-learning, to help European organisations deal with thechallenges of an aging workforce by addressing inclusive HR practices for OlderWorkers. This main objective will be achieved by:

- Identifying and addressing work environment constraints to the participation ofOlder Workers’s in the labour force- Identifying adequate inclusive HR practices for recruiting and retaining of OlderWorkers- Developing and implementing an m-learning course to better prepare HRmanagers to the challenges of the aging workforce, available in EN, NL, PT, ES,SI, PL and DK- Disseminate the results Europe-wide next to target groups, namely HRmanagers and HEI, to maximize the impact of final outcomes

As a result, the partnership expects to give a contribution to prepare HRmanagers for their new job requirements, to an increase on the Europeanorganisations’ competitiveness and general performance and to a widerparticipation of Older Workers in the European labour market.

Title:

The issue of environmental sustainability is of major importance to bothacademic institutions and the industry. On the one hand, academic institutionsare forced to come up with methodologies and strategies to reduce the burden ofhuman activity on the environment, and this task can be particularly extensive, ranging from simple software design (e.g. smart energy systems), to moreelemental approaches, such as discovering alternative technologies to createand process food with respect to natural resources. On the other hand, enterprizes are in need to quickly adapt their functioning and operationsaccording to global standards for environmental sustainability . In both cases, there is an obvious need to create linkages that will facilitate both sides (highereducation institutions and the industry) achieve their goals. In the course ofachieving environmentally sustainable company operations within the EU, it isnecessary to build strong connections between related academic institutions andresearch centers and the world of work. The process of becoming sustainablerequires enterprises to educate and train their executives and decision-makersabout a range of environmental issues, green practices and policies. Theproposed project (PrESS) responds to that need by aiming to enhance the skillsof European enterprises for environmental sustainability and management oftheir supply chains. Project PrESS will utilize mixed methods approaches todevelop a tailor-made web-based decision support tool for low carbon operationstargeted to EU enterprises. This tool will be developed based on the realisticneeds and knowledge gaps of enterprises, and help enterprises achieve thegoals of EU202 agenda and the EU Small Business Act for environmentalchallenges and climate change.

Title:

The difficult economic climate is increasing pressure on EU businesses to bemore resilient and sustainable. Many SME leaders focus on short-term survival.Their recovery strategy “..is to adopt a passive survival orientation and ‘to waitand see’ [or an] active retrenchment focussing on cutting costs..” (EUCommission – DGENTR, 2010, p.12). They do not contribute as much as theymight to shaping policy and solutions although the EU has taken steps toaddress this (Small Business Act). This pilot project will build a targeted,demand-driven Executive Programme, consisting of education and businesssupport tools, which will help SME intermediary leaders to be more effectivelyengaged in addressing longer-term issues of sustainability. The HEIs andbusiness Partners will use innovative Deliberative Engagement (DE) processes/techniques to work with SME intermediaries and collaborate to develop a set ofDE tools aimed at securing the pro-active participation of SME leaders. SMEsare the major employers in Europe (EU Commission – DGENTR, 2010, p. 15),their self-activated and additional contribution to solving the long term issuesfacing them is essential. The intention of this project is that as the process ofengagement progresses additional core sustainability issues will be revealed, and DE can be applied to their resolution. This pilot project includes a plan forHEIs to work with business intermediaries to develop their capabilities to engageeffectively with SMEs: it offers tailor-made training, a DE guide and will assist insetting up sustainable SME networks in conjunction with HEIs. The pilot willcreate a mechanism for an enduring relationship between SME intermediariesand HEIs as the DE process and will identify new and emerging SME concernsand issues which can then be addressed through the on-going trainingprogrammes and a suite of supporting materials. New pedagogical models andextended research agenda will be developed as a result of this work.

Title:

The aim of the Soulbus project is to build social capital between HEIs and labourmarket. The project enhances mutual communication and strengthens trust whileteachers and mentors are working in tandem to meet current and futurechallenges of multiculturalism. The target group comes from the fields ofeducation, rehabilitation and social & health care. Specifically, the project will (i)describe and share national practices related to multicultural competence andidentify good practices in the learning process of foreign students in practicalplacement, (ii) develop and implement the 100 % virtually based Multiculturalcoaching programme for the mentors and the teachers, (iii) produce and pilot thetailored actions for the guidance of foreign students in each of the partnercountries and peer-learn the pilots aiming at sharing innovations and creativesolutions that can be incorporated into national curricular activities.

The project’s output are designed to achieve three aims: to improve teachers'and mentors’ multicultural competence in order to increase the volume ofplacements available to foreign students and harmonize the quality ofplacements; to improve attractiveness and accessibility of the practicalplacements for the foreign exchange and degree students as a part of the HEIs'curricular activities; and to support systematic, long-term collaboration betweenHEIs and working life partners.

The methodological framework is based on mentors & teachers working in pairsas an part of iterative development cycle. The idea is to develop the Multiculturalcoaching programme through repeated cycles and in small increments. Thedevelopers (mentors & teachers) take advantage of what was learned during thedevelopment of earlier stages. The key steps in the process start with ananalysis of the present situation and iteratively enhance the evolving programmeuntil it is ready to disseminate and be further exploited by partners and widerlearning audience.

Title:

This project proposes an innovative transparent European educational programin Donor Health Care. Member states fail to conform with EU directives andstandards, while at the same time there are many differences in the quality andpractice of Donor Health Care throughout Europe. Both the Council of Europestates on Safety, Quality and Ethical Matters Concerning Procurement, Storageand Transplantation as well as the EC Action Plan on Organ Donation andTransplantation emphasize high professional and ethical standards andstrengthened cooperation in Europe in education and training in this subject.

Well known institutions across Europe will combine their knowledge andexpertise for this program, thus offering a pan European uniform approach forblood, cells, tissues and organs. This uniformity will increase the quality of theservices offered thereby raising the quantity in the supply of ‘substances ofhuman origin’.

A multi-disciplinary and integrated approach is needed to develop an innovativetransparent European educational programme with a strong focus on newchanges and developments in Donor Healthcare. The partners of this projectunderline the necessity of a mutual curriculum and structure to sustain ‘state ofthe art’ quality to face future challenges.

The consortium, with a solid track-record on latest developments, consists of amix of educational and working field partners. The latter will define the ‘demand’as the educational partners will translate this demand in a high qualityeducational curriculum.

All modules will be based on EU Donor Health Care knowledge, skills andcompetencies. The modules offer the possibility to work with building blocks:national institutions can adapt their own curriculum, composed of national andEuropean elements, offering a unique combination of knowledge and skills forprofessionals. National differences are embedded in a true European contextwhich makes it easier to remove possible obstacles.

Title:

Tourism is one of the most prosperous economic sectors in Europe (incl. relatedindustries approx. 12% of Europe’s overall GDP and 20 million jobs). Especiallyin rural and less developed areas it is seen as the only way for economicaldevelopment. However, tourism is a complex industry exposed to globaldevelopments difficult to be forecasted (e.g. economic crises, demographicchanges, life style trends etc.). The sector is characterized by quick changes ofclient needs as well as by an increasing shortage of skilled work force. Therefore, professional market forecasting models leading to concrete HRDactions (e.g. further VET measures) would urgently be needed.Unfortunately, around 95% of all tourist enterprises employ fewer than 10 peopleand have neither professional marketing nor HRD experts; they can neitherforecast market changes nor can they respond properly to them by improvingcompany profiles, promotion strategies or staff skills. However, appropriateknowhow would be available at many HEI specialised on tourism management/marketing. Unfortunately, they usually lack of appropriately defined processesand reliable instruments for providing enterprises successfully with theirknowhow and expertise.

By linking these stakeholders with each other we will ease this problematicsituation. Therefore, following outcomes will be achieved by the project:- CUBITUS university business cooperation model for tourism- CUBITUS guidelines/standards for senior tourism (on this topic our model willbe tested)- CUBITUS training course (ISO 17024 certified)- Piloting of training course and cooperation model- CUBITUS Green Paper for fostering university business cooperation at politicallevel- Long-term implementation of CUBITUS training course at HEI curricula inEurope for providing tourism industry continuously with CUBITUS experts

All products get published in 7 languages and in several 1000 hard copies; theyalso will be downloadable from the project’s website.

The Digital Agenda for EU2020 recognises a range of new skills that are requiredto make Europe competitive in an increasingly digital world. In this project HigherEducation Institutions directly respond to this need by researching anddeveloping innovative training materials and ways of working more closely withthe business community. We focus our attention on the skills shortage faced byEU enterprises wanting to systematically and intelligently exploit social medianetworks and search engines for commercial advantage. We simultaneouslyaddress the challenge faced by all Higher Education Institutions who need toremain relevant by meeting the current expectations and future needs of theirstudents while fully interacting with a digitally enabled business world.

The aim of this project is to implement an EU community for the sustainabledelivery of a Joint European Masters Programme in Search and Social MediaMarketing (JEMSS). To achieve this, nine objectives and interrelated workpackages have been devised that will be undertaken by a multi-disciplinaryconsortium of five Universities and two Small and Medium Sized Enterprises(SME) organisations.

This project will develop an innovative EU masters level programme thataddresses the needs of a growing industry sector by educating the nextgeneration of digital marketers. The three major benefits to learners, employersand Europe are:

1. Integration of a pan-European study and work experience - students will beexposed to study and work environments in several European countries2. Cutting edge curriculum and learning environment - preparing learners foremployment from the first day they join the programme and bringing benefit tothe businesses who engage in this programme through placements enablingdirect commercial access to continuously evolving curricula3. Developing high levels of professionalism within the Search and Social MediaMarketing community of Europe and reducing incidences of poor practice

Resource efficiency and youth entrepreneurship has been for a while circulatedin EU but not many organizations are aware of implications - skills required.Furthermore the requirement to reduce the water and electricity in EU hasbecome compulsory and many organizations are looking to embrace efficiency tomeet this requirement not been aware of the actual skills and technology needs. The project, taking into consideration these facts, aims to overcome thisknowledge gap by providing in partnership with relevant enterprises, continueeducation delivered in virtual environment to support development anddeployment of resource efficiency, improve entrepreneurship and environmentalimpacts, support and promote ideas and concepts through spin-offs based oncollaboration between University graduates and Industry. The University partnerswill transfer and valorize the expertise in the learning material support andenterprises and associations involved will inform such modules on industryrequirements, advance and employment market needs. The training material willcover aspects related to resources efficiency (eg water, energy) wastemanagement, sustainable growth, etc and will be advised by mentors from theindustry. These will promote entrepreneurship, business start-ups and innovationskills among non-traditional learners. The project will promote the transfer ofinnovation from Universities to the enterprises and will support this by creating avirtual platform that will be a gateway for communication between HE andEnterprises on solving problems that require skills based on a open sourceapproach. This portal will offer also placement within the consortium SMEs forgraduates and also for developing prototypes based on HE-SME studentcollaboration. The consortium includes universities, SMEs, NGOs, agencies from7 countries. The impact of this project is provision of innovative skills andknowledge in the resources efficiency.

This proposal focuses on engineering as being a social undertaking and not apure technical undertaking. Engineering is a process that starts withunderstanding people’s and/or organizational needs and ends with actuallybringing tailored products and services to these people/organisations. A multi-campus blended learning environment will offer engineers an innovativecurriculum with a strong mix of theory and practice in life settings. The profile ofCommunity Service Engineer will be added to their engineering profile. The theory will give engineers a thorough background in developing technologyfor and implementing technology in the social profit sector. For practice all partners will set up a structural partnership with the social profitsector to detect needs for technology. Associated partners (enterprises, chambers of commerce and local regional bodies, …) will be involved as a link tothe market per participating country. Confrontation between social work, economics and engineering students is anessential part of the project work (collaboration between fields of study). Mobility (physical and virtual) will be set up for the project work. In case ofphysical mobility reciprocal peer assisted learning and related assignments willguarantee that international-intercultural-competences can be acquired by allactors and projects can be carried out in a non-native speaker setting (languageissues). The curriculum will gradually be built. Starting from webinars & project work thatevolve towards a postgraduate joint degree and translation of the curriculum intoundergraduate curricula.Labour markets in European countries are in need for engineers. It has beenproven that by emphasizing the social added value of technology the youngergeneration and female students in particular are attracted towards theprofession. All university partners are committed to continue the curriculum after projecttermination and invite others to join.

Title:

The aim of the project is to improve the employability of sports related graduatesin the EU. Youth unemployment in the EU is increasing, with some countriesexperiencing unemployment of under 25 year olds at over 40%. The EU sportsector represents a labour-intensive growth industry likely to lead to additionalemployment growth. Currently its contribution in terms of employment to totalemployment is 2.12%; equal to 4.46 million employees. The sector has a role incontributing to achieving goals defined in Europe's strategy for sustainable andinclusive growth (Europe 2020), employment (European Employment Strategy)and the future of young people (Youth on the Move).

This study addresses the following three aspects related to employability andlifelong learning:

1. To further understand, from the perspective of graduates, Higher EducationInstitutions (HEIs) and employers the current and future needs, skills andcompetencies required for graduates.2. To develop a network of HEIs and employers to enable employers to input intocurricula.3. To support HEIs to develop employability related courses and opportunitieswithin curricula.

Summary of outputs:

1. Development of six formal networks, one per partner country, of employersand HEIs. Networks developed during the programme will be sustained. The aimis to assess current relations, and develop and support curricular development, and work placement opportunities. 2. Employability Intervention Toolkit: developed in partnership with employers, itwill provide EU examples of good practice and recommendations for EU basedemployers to work more closely with HEIs.3. Employability Toolkit for HEIs: developed in partnership with employers it willprovide HEIs with employability related initiatives complementary to, and/orembedded into degree programmes. 4. Toolkits will be endorsed by national professional bodies of sport and exercise,by employer associations and by education ministries and agencies.

The project aims at developing entrepreneurial behaviour with both staff andstudents in selected high-tech subject domains of higher education through theuse of innovative teaching methods, which encourage university-businesscooperation as well as knowledge sharing across national boundaries andsubject domains.

Trans-national and multidisciplinary collaboration is needed to ultimatelyenhance employability especially in the crisis-stricken geographical areas anddisciplinary sectors of Europe. Thus the IDEATE project proposes a research-based co-design and delivery of a European educational joint module of study, closely interconnected with real-life entrepreneurship. Acting as a platform forinterdisciplinary co-operation among four (then eight) disciplines on master’slevel, the course will be co-delivered together with industry partners in form of abusiness competition programme. The product shall be tested in two academiccycles, within a controlled expansion of the disciplinary realm, involving furtherdisciplines and businesses, reached through wide dissemination and target-exploited involvement of further relevant stakeholders.

Students of different disciplines will operate as scientific-cum-creative teamswithin selected modules, responding to a task set by a real-life employer. Afterfocused teacher training in novel entrepreneurial pedagogical approaches, mentored student teams blend four different cultural and professionalbackgrounds: Arts&Media, ICT, Health&Biosciences and Business. 'Mini' teamsco-develop innovative entrepreneurial responses to an employer-definedproblem within a blended international setting to present their application outlinesto a mixed board of specialists at the first live event. Upon winner selection, a'super team' of all involved collaborators develops the selected concept onlinetowards actual real-life relevance, to finalize it within the second full-weekmeeting, when a company or NGO might actually get established.

Title:

Organic Electronics is a branch of electronics that deals with conductivepolymers, plastics or small molecules. It is called ‘organic’ electronics becausethe polymers and small molecules are carbon – based, like the molecules ofliving things. It is a modern, state of the art technology and the founders of thiswere awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2000. Organic electronics isentering its third decade as a commercial technology but in many ways is arelatively new and emerging field. The volume of publications, the number ofjournals and the volume of the implemented research demonstrate the greatpotential that this technology has and the choices that offers to any scientist andstudent that wish to be involved in it. Even through the active research that is implementing around the globe, thistechnology is absent from the curriculum of the majority of the Universities in anystudy cycle. The proposed project has as a main objective the development of acurriculum of courses in close cooperation with companies that in the future canlead to a joined European MSc degree in organic electronics. The proposedcurriculum has an interdisciplinary character. For its development, academicsfrom Physics, Chemistry, Material Science and Electrical engineeringDepartments will be involved and collaborate. Another aspect of its innovativecharacter is the cooperation with companies. The companies will act asconsultants to the academics during the development of the modules. Personnelfrom the involved companies will continuously advise the academics about theskills and the knowledges that a graduate from such a program should acquiresaccording to the market needs. Thus the cooperated companies will get moreinvolved with university courses to close a skills gap and ease graduates' path toemployment. The curriculum modules (15 in total) are going to be distributedwithin four semesters and 120 ECTS units are going to be corresponded.

Title:

The biggest challenges of our times are looking to social innovative solutions toboost growth and jobs, and Social enterprise is a key element of the Europeansocial model. Social entrepreneurs are creating innovative solutions, deliveringextraordinary results to millions of people. It is crucial, therefore, to support andpromote it so as to take advantage of its growth potential and capacity to createsocial value. The European economy needs entrepreneurs to foster a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth that leads to a social economy. However thereis a marked need to improve people’s capabilities to launch social business, create communities of social entrepreneurs and develop knowledge and skills tothis specific type of business. Whilst Europe does not have enoughentrepreneurs, there are disproportionately even fewer female than maleentrepreneurs. The EC is working with Member States to find ways to overcomefactors which discourage women from taking up entrepreneurship.

The initiative for this project starts from a need to generate innovative ideas in aninteractive community that allows women with experience and willing to start-upsocially-focussed projects to ideate and plan them as effective social businesses.WISE will facilitate women knowledge and tools in order to become socialinnovators and solve challenges in their community. Our objective is to elaborateand extend a training programme based on cutting-edge methodologies and anexperiential pedagogical plan with a user centred perspective and to develop aninteractive e-community. Through this they will gain an overview of trends andopportunities, the skills and competencies to innovate socially, methodologies todesign the future with creativity, the environment and support to design their ideaand business plan, a network of like-minded individuals with whom to formteams, and visibility to potential partners, investors and supporters

EDUCCKATE - EDUcation Cultural & Creative Knowledge Alliance for Tomorrow’s

Entrepreneurs

Coordinated by University College London's centre for Applied Archeology, the project

involves 11 partners in 7 countries. It will implement an innovative, mentored internship

scheme to boost the innovation potential of HE institutions & companies specifically with a

focus on the cultural and creative sectors. The aim is to foster an entrepreneurial mind-set in

students and staff these fields of activity & promote entrepreneurship.

The cultural & creative (CC) sectors make places attractive to live in, invest in & visit; they’re

key to sustainable economic growth. Recent reductions in public funding have led to job

losses & loss of expertise in small & medium sized CC organisations (SMEs). In an insecure

economic environment, large graduate employment schemes are over-subscribed & SMEs

report an application shortage.

A new generation of entrepreneurs is needed to increase the long-term sustainability of the

CC sectors & increase flexibility for future economic changes. The project provides students

in CC majors with: access to businesses, including CC SMEs; opportunities to develop

business projects & new professional paths. It benefits HE Institutes through links with CC

businesses & businesses by partnership with specialist HE departments in order to develop

new sector specific services/products/prototypes with commercialisation potential that benefit

from state-of-the art academic research/knowledge.

E-NSPIRATION - Energy related multidisciplinary Knowledge Alliance aiming to introduce an

innovative training programme

There is a clear and pressing need for Europe`s industry to minimize its energy consumption

and to apply new learning, teaching and working paradigms such as they will be developed

during the e-nspiration project. This is the main reason why the e-nspiration Knowledge

Alliance - dealing with industrial energy saving issues – is set up.

To support innovation, e-nspiration will supplement scenario-driven requirements processes

with creativity workshops/techniques and team work approaches in order to support

innovation & invention of novel ideas applicable in the energy saving sector.

The definitive distinction between the e-nspiration project in comparison with other similar

knowledge alliances pilot projects will be that e-nspiration will follow an application driven

approach whereas the knowledge alliance will bring together professionals from energy-

intensive industrial sectors like the steel and paper industry with students and professors

from specialised European universities with the intention that all project participants will act in

3 different roles: a) within the role of a teacher, b) within the role of a student and c) within

the role of professional real-life solution developer during work in the industrial environments.

As leading-edge project in the area of an innovative knowledge alliance approach the e-

nspiration project will establish itself as an international reference project in the area of a

successful university-industry cooperation to support the realisation of European climate

framework of 2020. The concept of this project is drawn up in a way which will guarantee the

successful converting of the ideas - energy-efficient engineering, CO2 free and renewable

energy technologies, more entrepreneurship thinking, etc. – into industrial working

processes.

EURL3A - European Real Life Learning Lab Alliance: EURL3A

In order to realize the European goals for reducing the emission of green-house gasses and

in order to reduce our dependency on scarce base materials and fossil energy sources one

of the most complex challenges is the transition towards a sustainable and Near Zero

Emission (NZE) built environment. In facing this challenge both the educational as the

business sector encounter following barriers in implementing sustainable and NZE building

and retrofitting technologies:

- the number of ‘technical’ students, crucial for this transition, is decreasing dramatically

- the fragmentation of knowledge necessary for this transition;

- the skills of today’s delivered students do not match with the needs of the business sector

in this field.

The EURL3A project wants to tackle these barriers by improving technical education, making

education more efficient and making it more attractive by a dynamic integration of practice

and theory by the so called Real Life Learning Lab Concept.

In Real Life Learning Labs multidisciplinary teams of students and young entrepreneurs,

under mentorship of professionals from universities and industry work on Real Life

assignments from the business sector and on developing new enterprises. During this

process relevant theoretical knowledge is educated just in time. The Real Life Learning Labs

are centred in regional knowledge alliances in which mobility and exchange programs are

active. The regional knowledge alliances are coupled as one European network of

knowledge alliances for easy accessible knowledge and research capacity and an exchange

program on an European level.

The EURL3A project develops the concept in three European countries as a start for a

European network of Real Life Learning Lab Alliances.
