REPLY TO MB. F. M. ENGLISH.

ElUTUK BfLl ET1N :

The letter of 3d instant which ap-

peared iti ,otir journal signed F. 51.

English leaves its readers in muchperplexity as to its object. We havea few theories on the subject. Is itintended at a reply to "SemperParutus," or is it a defence of the"second cougregatiou," or say of thechurch as a whole, or is it only acolumn or so of rather exuberantadvertising on the cheap at whichMr. F. M. English is said to be anadept.

As we are hrimmiii over w ith charity, we will not take up any of the abovetheories; but content ourselves withmaking a few observations in allmctkness and humility; the chiefone being that .Mr. F. M. Englishhas written on subjects of which lie

knows nothing tx cpt by hearsay. The public will no doubt be gratefulio Mr F. M. English for valuableinformation as follows: "His Lord-

ship is Bishop of the Diocese and notof a congregation. His Lordship isBishop of both congregations; theRev. Mr. Barnes is appointed to thetirst, the Rev. Mr. Mackintosh to thesecond." Wr F. M. English musthave a gigantic intellect to be ableto grasp and cope with such stupen-dous facts. The erudition he dis-

plays, as above, makes us heartilyashamed of our "poetic-idiocy.-

Mr. F. M. English gives us "morelight:" he attends "the services ofwhat is known as the Second Congre-gation," a statement we cannotdoubt, for he is suppoed to be on astill hunt after "corn" and it wouldnot be english to select a nearlyempty granary from which to replen-

ish his bin. The Second Congrega-tion is large minded enough, goodenough, r.nd we will add generousenough, to tolerate the j.i i uliarit.it s

and idiosyncrasies of Mr. F. M Eng-

lish, but we should have thought theeloquent, polished disquisitions ema-

nating from His Lordship the Bishopwould have proved a necessity andirresistible to a B. A. of Oxon ; sill, how very obtuse we are ; of course,"other considerations," etc.

Mr. F. M. English has no furtherinformation for us, but that "SemperI'aratus" is "poor" "doesn'tknow any better," is a "poetic idiot,"an extraordinary person, "cravesfor more blood," after killing sheepand that the trade of a carpenter is

about the right thing for your hum-

ble servant. The above is line writ-

ing Mr. F. M. English, but as yourgreat intellect is fully illustrated in

vour own communication, ami in thepresent one we content ourselveswith thanking you for the abovepearls culled from the b cundily ofan overstrained imagination.

We now say farewell to Mr. F. M.

English and decline to take anyfurther notice either of him or his"curiosities of literature," unlessjustice demands it.

We are not aware if His Lordshipblushes ingeiiu iiisly, or otherwise, but, we are certain he has dropped asih nt tear or two for the B. A. ofOxon.

Poor Oxon ! Its irraduates appar-ently have degenerated sadly sinceour time. Skmpkh Pakatis,
