Year Code1939 R1940 Q1941 P1942 O1943 N1944 M1945 Z1946 L

A note for uniform collectors: War Department acceptance stamp codes are a single alphabetic character which repre-sents the year that an individual garment was accepted into British Service. Typically a garment will have a manufac-turer’s size tag that includes the company name or initials along with the date that the item was produced. The accep-tance stamp will be separate and in ink. This will usually fea-ture the code for the year the item was accepted, over W /|\ D, over the numeric code ID for the inspector or inspection facility. It is possible for the acceptance stamp code to be for the same year that the item was manufactured or later. But the acceptance stamp code will never be for a year that is earlier than the year of manufacture.
