Grade 10

What is an e-Portfolio?

An electronic portfolio is a learning resource used to showcase reflective learning, and organize

evidence of a student’s best performance, show progress, and indicate program attainment in a

multimedia format by using any HTML software, e.g. OneNote, Webs, Wix and Google Site. This

is an excellent tool for compiling and organizing work and accomplishments without storing it in

a bulky notebook that provides evidence for learning, course work or/and employment.

The electronic portfolio in education holds a collection of your work (assignments/projects) that

show what you have learned and the educational standards that you have mastered.

e-Portfolio Content:

● The e-Portfolio will use the following theme: Covid-19 – and its impact on our daily lives

● Each page of the portfolio will be related to a subject (based on the Power standards

covered in the content).

● Each student will research/investigate and reflect on completed task assigned by the

subject teacher.

What Will I Include in My e-Portfolio?

This e-portfolio assignment consists of several elements that are suggested by your teacher and

determined (chosen) by you. The following are the requirements:

(A) Index (your name, course, teacher, academic year, & email)

(B) Table of Contents (can be included in the index)

(C) Biographical sheet (e.g. resume)

(D) Content:

1. Includes one task per subject, based on the theme and task specified by your

subject teacher. Students should keep subjects in different sections.

2. Write a narrative self-reflection for each submitted task, connecting it to how

you learned, using the sample self-reflection tasks below. You have the choice

to choose one reflective task to answer per subject.

Try to address the following while writing your narrative reflection:

When is the ePortfolio Due Date and what is the allocated marks? The ePortfolio will be introduced during May and will be submitted in the week of June 28th. Each

student will submit one ePortfolio compiling all key subjects with reflection using OneNote,

Webs, Wix, Google Site or any tool as agreed with their teacher. Students will receive detailed

criteria and rubric. The ePortfolio reflects 15% of your subject mark.

Assessment/ Evaluation of e-Portfolio:

Grading is based on accuracy and organization of content and artifact, quality of narrative and

analytical reflections and presentation of electronic portfolio (See rubric below).

ePortfolio Planning Guide

Grade 10

Theme Dealing with topics that help support nations to overcome the

pandemic (United Nations, WHO, medical support)

Subject & Task

English:

Create an interview with one of the world leaders or with the general director of the WHO or

the UN.

1. Create a video/short animation interviewing a world leader (a president of a country,

the UN secretary general, the WHO director general).

2. Use a list of targeted questions provided to guide your research and interview.

3. Upload your final video using any HTML software, e.g. OneNote, Webs, Wix or Google

Site.

4. Self-evaluate your work by checking the rubric provided.

5. Present your work and be ready to answer questions.

Math:

Covid-19 has had unprecedented health impacts on people and countries across the world.

Health professionals, leaders and governments are working continuously to keep us safe and

treat those of us who get infected. Health organizations continue to provide equitable access

to essential services while stressing on the importance of following the health and safety

guidelines to safely meet our essential needs and to control infection risk.

Research how Geometry and Statistics Math concepts like: “Angle relationship in circles and

Segment relationship in circles” may help to control the infection risk and how it would

minimize the spread of COVID 19.

For example: You are the host of a restaurant with circular tables. You are responsible for

seating guests to ensure safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Include the following in your research:

· Research the regulations for restaurants in the UAE.

· Apply those rules to design a seating arrangement for the restaurant.

· Create a 2-D model for your arrangement. Be sure to use the properties of circles and triangles that you have learned

· Present this design to the healthcare authorities who ensure the safety of patrons

Instructions:

1. Read the instructions carefully to make sure you are aware of the learning outcome for

this task. (Area, circumference, properties and theorems of circles to represent variables

in real life situation)

2. Do the research! Research UAE restaurant regulations and decide how this will affect

your restaurant by including theorems of circles to model a real-life situation.

3. You can choose from the ICT class the platform (Wix, OneNote or Google sites) to

present your product.

4. It should be typed with a font size of 14 (Arial, Calibri or Times New Roman) and single

spacing.

Present your work with creativity, neatness and proper organization following the Creativity

and Innovation rubric below.

Physical Science:

Description: During the Covid-19 pandemic scientists from all over the world are collaborating

to find a cure and a vaccine to the viral disease, so far many companies claimed to have a drug

that can help cure the covid-19 virus. In this project you are going to mention all the drugs that

companies claimed can cure covid-19, you are going to write about them, how do they tend to

cure the disease? Do they kill the virus? Do they reduce the symptoms? you are also going to

write about the novel cure used by UAE which uses stem cell therapy to cure the Covid-19.

My e-portfolio instructions:

1. You are going to create a small documentary on i-movies , a power point, or a 2000 words research paper about all the medicines that are being used to fight coronavirus, you will mention the pros and cons of each of them, then talk about the innovative approach of the UAE by using stem cell therapy techniques to fight the coronavirus 2. BE CREATIVE. Include scientific information, Data, graphs and diagrams to support your argument. 3. Make sure the information you write is in your own words (avoid copy paste material) 4. Stay organized. Make sure your work is neat, attractive, and Informative at the same time. 5. Manage your time. Follow up on the time plan and checklist table below to submit your work on time.

Chemistry :

Description : In your task you will:

-Explain how the atomic structure affects the function of molecules.

-Discuss the importance of the atomic composition of substances in determining the physical and chemical properties of these substances.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO, United nations and all medical teams play a vital role in

communicating and sharing all the necessary information to the public to make them more

aware of the virus nature, behavior and all other protective methods that can help people in

staying safe and virus-free.

In this task, you will use your knowledge of how understanding the composition of chemicals

at the molecular level will help in fighting the spread of COVID-19 and in better understanding

of its transmission, as well as its possible treatments.

Instructions:

Choose one of the following options to work on:

1.You are a doctor in the WHO and in the front line of treating coronavirus patients. Make an

iMovie to clearly explain the chemistry (at the atomic level) of this virus and why some

precautionary measures such as washing hands with soap and using hand sanitizers containing

alcohol will destroy the virus.

2. You are working in a world leading pharmaceutical company who is trying to find a treatment

for COVID-19. Submit a detailed research paper to explain why understanding the chemistry

behind this virus is the first step in understanding the viral structure to pathogenesis, isolation

of vaccines and therapies. How can you know what chemicals might be effective in killing this

virus and what might make it resistant to other chemicals?

3. Using your prior knowledge of macromolecules (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic

acids). The WHO decided to put you in charge of designing some scientific sketches (at least 3)

to explain the structure of this virus as well as how some possible changes in these structures

(the protein coat of the virus or its genome) can help destroy it. Your sketches must be very

clear and descriptive as they will be used as posters on clinic and hospital walls all over the

world to educate the patients about this virus.

History: This research will help you explore the role of the United Nations in overcoming the pandemic. Your e-portfolio will deal with research about COVID-19 and you should provide a narrative reflection on the topic of not less than 500 words. What is the research about? 1. Brief summary of the structure of the World Health Organization. 2. Summary of COVID-19 and its impact globally.

Why are certain countries not supporting the World Health Organization decisions? 6. Conclusion: What additional measures do you feel can be taken to combat COVID-19? You may add other features to your portfolio, not required, such as photos, animations.

ICT: Create an e portfolio website under the theme of United Nations, WHO, medical support: dealing with topics that help support nations to overcome the pandemic.

Business 1:

The World Health Organization (WHO) issues a call for governments and industry to ramp up production. It has warned that mounting disruption to the global supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) is putting lives at risk. They said that rising in demand, panic buying, hoarding and misuse are creating a critical shortage. However, the COVID-19 crisis puts pressure on health services across the globe and mentioned already existing shortages of health workers. This research will help you relate the topics studied in class to COVID-19 and how WHO and nations support one another. What is the research about? Part 1: Give a brief definition of the World Health Organization. How do you think Covid-19 has affected employment and unemployment around the world? Please consider the medical industries along with other types of industries. Concerning international trade, interpret referring to realistic and updated information how the international trade and globalization has been affected after Covid-19. Analyze your answers by providing examples. The term “Virtual business” became more familiar nowadays. Explain the meaning of virtual business, and what is the impact of virtual businesses on the world economy.

What is the effect on the E-trade? Referring to the business cycle, in which stage is it now? Provide evidence and examples. Write a paragraph explaining the above questions based on the knowledge that you have acquired from the subject during the year.

Part 2:

One of the largest news trending globally these days is that UAE is sending hundreds of tons of medical support to other countries. In your opinion, why do you think UAE is able to provide such support internationally, while at the same time, other countries are not able to satisfy even 40 % for their domestic needs? Write a paragraph explaining the above questions based on the knowledge that you have acquired from the subject during the year. You may add other features to your portfolio, not required, such as photos, animations.
