Introduction

Electronic Portfolio (e-Portfolio) is the major assessment component of UU100. An e-Portfolio refers to

“An Electronically stored collection (or archive) of student’s experiences, achievements and artefacts,

together with their reflections on learning.” (Australian e-Portfolio Project, 2009).

Mahara@USP is the e-Portfolio system used by USP. This UU100 e-Portfolio Activity consists of tasks

related to Topic10 that you will need to complete and upload in your e-Portfolio as per the assessment

requirements.

This activity sheet is to be used in conjunction with e-Portfolio Student Guide which gives you more

technical guidance and specific instructions on how to use Mahara@USP.

ePortfolio

The structure of the ePortfolio page has to be in alignment with the format illustrated in the sample

outline guide. Upload all ePortfolio activities on a folder in Mahara and the page created for UU100-

SXXXXXXXX_FULL NAME_UU100 LEARNING JOURNEY.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, the highlighted Learning Objectives will be achieved:

Activity 4: Evaluating Information

Note: This assessment has 2 parts (A & B)

Part A: In Eportfolio Activity 2 & Activity 3, you found the following two articles:

i. on Digital Divide Activity 2- Item (iii):

A blog post on the Topic: “Discuss how the introduction for Mobile Internet is transforming the region and its development. Also discuss the impact internet is having on the daily lives of ordinary Pacific Islanders.”

Activity 3- Item (iv): Zahariadis, T., Grüneberg, K., & Celetto, L. (2011). Seamless Content Delivery over Mobile 3G+/4G Networks. Mobile Networks and Applications, 16(3), 351-360.

[You have already located the above resources in ePortfolio activities 2 & 3. Thus it should not take much effort to retrieve them again.]

Your Task:

Evaluate which of the above two resources would be most appropriate for the research topic:

“Cheap affordable Mobile Internet: How can it enhance the lives of Pacific Islanders?”

Your research is for the university Year 1 Information Systems assignment. Evaluate the two resources thoroughly using the evaluation criteria – Scope, Treatment, Authority, Relevance and Timeliness. The START evaluation criterion is mentioned in Topic 10. You may use ether a tabular/essay format to evaluate justify your choice/reasoning.

Part B: Summary Create a journal entry in Mahara (use the instructions given in the Creating Journals Guide). Write a summary reflecting on your understanding of why information resources should be carefully evaluated before using it for your research. Justify your viewpoints. The title of the Journal Entry should be: My Reflection for Activity 4.

Submission Guideline

Answer to Activity 4 has to be submitted as a single PDF (Portable Document Format) File.

You can convert a MS Word File into PDF Format by simply saving it as PDF File Type. Check

your document for possible plagiarism using TurnItIn by uploading it using the Eportfolio

Activity Drop box (for Activity 3) located under ePortfolio Block of the UU100 Moodle page.

Modify your submission and ensure that your final version has a Similarity Index of less than or

equal to 50%. Ensure your file is named SXXXXXXXXX_ACT_4, where SXXXXXXXXX represents

your ID number. Export your Portfolio Activity to Mahara. (After exporting,

SXXXXXXXXX_ACT_4.pdf should be visible in the Contents -> Incoming folder on Mahara)
